I’ve been having a hard time finding something really good to watch lately, and I kept thinking it was because there just wasn’t much out there. But it turns out that’s not the problem at all! There are actually some fantastic shows being overlooked. One I stumbled upon, streaming on Apple TV, is called Your Friends and Neighbors, and it’s seriously good. It’s a really clever, slightly funny crime thriller, and it stars Jon Hamm – you might remember him from Mad Men or Landman. Plus, it has an almost perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is always a good sign!
Plus, a third season has already been confirmed, meaning you can get invested without worrying about an unfinished story. So why isn’t everyone buzzing about this show? You’ll likely be asking the same question after watching a few episodes. Let’s change that – we can help make Your Friends and Neighbors as popular as Landman! It truly deserves the attention. But what’s the show actually about?
There’s a Smooth Criminal in ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’

Andrew Cooper, played by Hamm, appears to have it all in the show Your Friends & Neighbors. He’s a successful hedge fund manager with a comfortable suburban life, a wife, kids, and a luxury Maserati. But beneath the surface, trouble is brewing. His world quickly unravels when he discovers his wife is having an affair, and he’s unexpectedly fired from his job after a consensual encounter leads to a false accusation. Now he’s facing a complete upheaval of his life – what happens next?
Honestly, after things fell apart, instead of wallowing or rushing back to the corporate world, my guy Coop takes a really unexpected turn – he starts robbing people! But not just anyone, his super-rich neighbors in Westmont Village. And he’s surprisingly smart about it, kind of like that character in ‘The Thomas Crown Affair.’ He only takes stuff people won’t really miss or notice is gone – art, jewelry, that sort of thing. He even figures out where to sell it all without raising any flags, so he can keep up appearances as a successful businessman. But let me tell you, you just know it’s going to blow up in his face eventually.
You might have already seen something from the show without realizing it – remember that popular viral meme of people dancing in blue light? It came from Your Friends & Neighbors. Season 2 is currently airing, with three episodes released and seven more to come. It’s even better than the first season, earning an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes compared to Season 1’s 79%. If it keeps getting better, Season 3 could be perfect! This is the kind of show you start watching and immediately wonder why you didn’t discover it sooner.
‘Your Friends & Neighbors’ Proves Jon Hamm Was Born for TV

Jon Hamm’s career has had its ups and downs. After the success of Mad Men, he faced a common challenge for TV stars: finding similar success in other projects. Films like Million Dollar Arm and Advark didn’t quite recapture the magic of his popular drama. But Hamm found his footing again with a return to television. He delivered a standout performance in the Black Mirror episode “White Christmas,” widely considered one of the show’s best. He also impressed as an angel in Good Omens, a corrupt sheriff in Fargo, and a powerful oil executive in Landman.
Jon Hamm is impressing audiences again with his latest TV role. Fans of Landman might wish the creator of Your Friends & Neighbors hadn’t cast him, as it meant he couldn’t continue playing Monty on Taylor Sheridan’s show. However, most fans will likely be happy about this, as the new crime thriller shares some appealing similarities with the popular neo-Western. Both shows feature a focus on wealth, complex family relationships—including a frustrating teenage daughter—and a central character dedicated to protecting their family and financial interests.
I’m completely captivated by this show! It looks absolutely stunning, all glitz and glamour, but what really gets me is how much heart it has. It’s clever, exciting, and genuinely fun to watch. And honestly, even though some characters have done terrible things, I find myself hoping they don’t end up in jail! It’s a testament to Jonathan Tropper’s skill – the creator, who I already loved from Banshee and Warrior – that he makes you connect with everyone. That’s the mark of truly great television, isn’t it?
As a film buff, I have to say Coop is the perfect role for Hamm, and he absolutely kills it. But honestly, the movie isn’t just a showcase for Hamm’s charisma. The supporting cast is incredible! James Marsden is a total scene-stealer as this hilariously sneaky billionaire neighbor who gets wise to Coop’s plans. And you’ll seriously love Hoon Lee, who plays Coop’s best friend – he redefines what it means to be truly loyal. It’s a fantastic ensemble!
So, don’t be shy. Say hi to your friends and neighbors. Will you?
