Daisy Ridley’s New R-Rated Zombie Thriller Finally Releases On Hulu In 2 Weeks

Daisy Ridley’s new zombie movie is finally digging its way onto streaming.

Daisy Ridley is an English actress who became famous for her role as Rey in the recent Star Wars films (2015-2019). Since then, she’s appeared in several other movies, including the mysteries Murder on the Orient Express (2017) and The Marsh King’s Daughter (2023), the romantic drama Ophelia (2018), the sci-fi film Chaos Walking (2021), the independent film Sometimes I Think About Dying, and the biographical drama Young Woman and the Sea (2024). Her latest project, a zombie movie, is now available on streaming.

The zombie film We Bury the Dead, which came out in theaters this January, is now available to stream. Written and directed by Zak Hilditch (known for These Final Hours and 1922), the movie follows Daisy Ridley as a woman searching for her husband after a major military disaster. She soon discovers a terrifying reality: a world completely overrun by zombies.

After its release in theaters nearly four months ago, the movie We Bury the Dead will be available to stream on Hulu starting May 8th. You can already rent or buy it from digital stores since February 3rd, and a physical copy on 4K UHD and Blu-ray will be released on July 8th.

Alongside Daisy Ridley, the film features a talented cast including Mark Coles Smith, Brenton Thwaites, Kym Jackson, Matt Whelan, Deanna Cooney, Salme Geransar, Holly Hargreaves, Megan Hollier, Matthew Parkin, Amanda Faye Chandler, Charles Walmsley, Deborah Kerr-Doorn, Jimmy Duncan, and John Monk.

Critics praised We Bury the Dead, giving it an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes. They highlighted the film’s fresh take on zombie stories, its beautiful visuals, and its moving exploration of loss and grief. Daisy Ridley’s performance was particularly noted, and the film’s unique and imaginative premise also received acclaim.

Look, I get why some people didn’t love We Bury the Dead. It definitely wasn’t what everyone expected. A lot of viewers found it pretty slow and said it didn’t have enough of the usual thrills and scares you want in a horror film. Honestly, some even questioned if it was really a zombie movie at all, because it does things a little differently. It’s divisive, for sure, but I think that’s part of what makes it interesting.

The film debuted at South by Southwest in March 2025 and had a limited release in North American theaters on January 2, earning $4 million. While the release was quiet, We Bury the Dead grossed $3 million during its opening weekend on just 1,117 screens – the biggest opening weekend ever for its distributor, Vertical Entertainment.
