Recently, things began to shift. Two Stephen King TV series – The Institute on MGM+ and It: Welcome to Derry on HBO – which debuted last year, proved popular with both audiences and critics. This year, 2026, looks set to continue this success, with the release of The Institute’s second season and Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Carrie.

We haven’t seen a lot about Pokémon Winds & Waves yet, but I like what’s been revealed. The Pokémon Company gave us a first look at the new starter Pokémon in February for Pokémon Day, and announced the game will continue the open-world style of gameplay. It’s set in a completely new region made up of islands spread across a large ocean.

Viewers have many fond memories of the series, which consistently surprised and amazed them each week. Several moments, in particular, are considered some of the best in the show’s entire run.

According to FlixPatrol, Knocked Up is currently the fifth most popular movie on Netflix globally. It’s performing well in several countries, including Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, and Italy, and even reached number two in Bulgaria. The movie is also a hit in the United Kingdom, where it’s currently at number three on Netflix.

As a huge fan of the original Lord of the Rings, I was really interested to hear that Jamie Dornan is taking on the role of Strider – you know, the ranger who eventually becomes king, a part Viggo Mortensen famously played. I listened to an interview with Mortensen on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast with Josh Horowitz, and he actually said he’s genuinely excited about Dornan being cast and the direction they’re taking with the character. That’s a pretty big endorsement, and it definitely has me even more hyped for the new film!

The 1985 TV movie Thirteen at Dinner is based on Agatha Christie’s novel Lord Edgware Dies. Peter Ustinov, who famously portrayed Hercule Poirot in several adaptations between the late 1970s and early 1980s, stars as the detective. Interestingly, David Suchet also appears in this version, but not as Poirot—he plays Inspector Japp instead.

I was so excited to hear that the Jack Ryan story is continuing as a movie! Amazon MGM announced Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War is coming in October 2024, and it’s going to bring John Krasinski back as Jack Ryan. From what I understand, Ryan gets pulled back into action to investigate a dangerous international mission, and we’ll see him working with familiar faces like Mike November and James Greer. The best part? You don’t need to watch decades of movies to get caught up – just the four seasons of the Amazon show, and you’re good to go! It’s a much easier commitment than trying to watch all the Bond films!

Both the original memoir and the new film adaptation, co-written and directed by Nicole Bazuin, offer a refreshing change of pace. Werhun, who also consulted on the acclaimed film Anora (executive produced by its director, Sean Baker), presents herself as a complex and fascinating character – far from simply a villain or a victim. She’s brought her life story to the screen with humor, honesty, and a remarkable amount of creativity.

Great news for fans of Shifting Gears: the show has been officially renewed for a third season! This week also brought a second season order for the Scrubs revival. However, the future of new crime drama R.J. Decker is still uncertain. It’s currently the only scripted series on the network whose fate hasn’t been decided, and its chances of getting renewed are considered even – while it started strong, ratings haven’t quite met the network’s expectations.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s second film, Boogie Nights, was a breakthrough for him, clearly showing he would become a highly acclaimed director. The movie helped launch or boost the careers of several actors, and importantly, it established Mark Wahlberg as a talented performer.
