Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’s Emma Tammi on divide between fans and critics
Emma Tammi isn’t worried if the sequel, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, gets different reactions from critics and audiences, like the first movie did. She believes the franchise has always focused on what its fans want.
Before the new movie comes out, the director talked about how the first film was really popular with fans, but critics weren’t as impressed. She explained that it took a little while to see how audiences felt, but when the audience scores started coming in very high, they knew they had succeeded. (Source: Dexerto)
Tammi explained that the film was made for a specific audience, and if that audience connected with it, she considered it a success. While she acknowledged and understood the points made in critical reviews, she emphasized the movie wasn’t intended for critics in the first place. She believes filmmakers need to accept that not everyone will appreciate their work and move on.
Tammi doesn’t expect the sequel to drastically change what most critics think. She said that if critical opinions do shift, that would be a bonus, but the movie was specifically made for fans of the first film, and that’s who they focused on reaching. She hopes audiences who enjoyed the original will come back, and believes the sequel might even appeal to them more.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 arrives in theaters on December 5, 2025.
