Iain Armitage, known for his role as Young Sheldon, is making a special appearance on CBS’s Ghosts. He’ll be playing himself, not his character from Young Sheldon. Young Sheldon, which premiered in 2017, was created as a spin-off of the popular series The Big Bang Theory – a show that ran on CBS for 12 seasons, from 2007 to 2019. During its time on air, Young Sheldon became CBS’s most-watched comedy.

As a big fan of The Big Bang Theory, I really enjoyed Young Sheldon. It’s a prequel that shows us a young Sheldon Cooper, played brilliantly by Iain Armitage, and it’s so cool that Jim Parsons came back to narrate! It recently wrapped up after seven seasons – apparently, they had to stick to the established story timeline – but the show’s popularity led to another spin-off, this time focusing on Sheldon’s brother, Georgie. That one, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, is actually on CBS right now, and I’m definitely tuning in!

Iain Armitage Returns To CBS For A Cameo Appearance in Ghosts

This show connects CBS’s comedy lineup. It centers on Sam and Jay Arondekar, a young couple who move from New York City to a house in upstate New York after Sam inherits it from a relative. After a fall, Sam gains the ability to see ghosts, and the series follows their adventures.

Simon Helberg, who played Howard Wolowitz in The Big Bang Theory, will make a brief appearance in Season 5 of Ghosts. This marks his first return to CBS since an episode of The Big Bang Theory that dealt with the passing of George Sr. and Sheldon getting ready for Caltech. It’s also the first time he’s acted in a role separate from his work on Young Sheldon, hinting at what’s next for his career.

However, this scene is funny because it shows the actor trying to change his image. He’s at Woodstone for an important poker tournament, and when someone recognizes him from Young Sheldon, he jokingly explains he’s rebranding himself. He claims he just landed a role in a tough, realistic poker film.

Richard Armitage is starring in a fictional poker movie, and he has a couple of other projects lined up after taking a break from acting. He’ll appear with Martin Freeman, known from The Hobbit, in a film called The Adam Trials, and he was also cast in another role. Though he previously voiced Shaggy in a planned Scooby-Doo movie, that project was unfortunately canceled.

What’s Next For Ghosts And The Big Bang Theory Franchise

Sam and Jay are struggling to keep their business afloat in “Woodstone Royale,” so they organize a poker tournament to pay off a debt to the IRS caused by Trevor Lefkowitz’s unpaid taxes. However, after Jay shares a photo with Armitage, the police raid their game and seize all the money they won.

The struggles of Arondekar’s business are expected to come to a head in the season finale of Ghosts. The finale, a special hour-long event featuring the episodes “Up the Creek” and “Across the Pond,” will air on Thursday, May 21, 2026, and will also reveal new complications.

Despite a recent ratings dip, the show Ghosts will return for a sixth season on CBS. However, it won’t be part of the fall lineup in 2026-2027. CBS is making room for a new comedy and will replace Ghosts with Eternally Yours, a series created by the same team behind Ghosts, focusing on a vampire couple who have been together for 500 years.

The new show, Eternally Yours, will premiere this Thursday at 8:30 pm Eastern time. In other news, the network has ordered another season of the The Big Bang Theory spinoff, bringing back Montana Jordan and Emily Osment as the central couple. Their characters are currently facing difficulties in their marriage, and the show will follow them as they head towards a divorce.
