As a huge movie fan, I always get excited about May the Fourth – it’s become a yearly celebration for those of us who love Star Wars! It’s especially sweet to hear that Billie Lourd continues a beautiful tradition with her kids, watching her late mom, Carrie Fisher, as Princess Leia every year. It sounds like a really special way for them to remember her.
Billie Lourd, daughter of the late Carrie Fisher and an actress herself, recently shared a touching photo on Instagram for May the 4th. The image shows Lourd and her children watching Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, specifically a scene with Leia and stormtroopers. The post is quickly gaining popularity, with fans sharing their appreciation for Fisher in the comments. Cameron Monaghan, who stars in the Star Wars video games as Cal Kestis, was among those expressing their love for Fisher.
Carrie Fisher became a beloved icon thanks to her unforgettable role as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars films. She later rejoined Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill for the sequel trilogy, returning as Leia in The Force Awakens (2015), with her performance appearing in The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019) even after her passing. On May 4, 2023 – Star Wars Day – she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
It was absolutely heartbreaking when Carrie Fisher passed away on December 27th, 2016, at just 60 years old. And then, unbelievably, her mother, Debbie Reynolds, suffered a stroke and died the very next day while she was making arrangements for Carrie’s funeral. It was just a devastating time. They held a private memorial for both of them soon after, and Carrie’s daughter, Billie Lourd, bravely shared a statement publicly about losing her mother and grandmother right after the service.
Over the past week, your prayers and kind messages have been a huge source of strength when I felt like there was none left. I will miss my mother, whom I affectionately called ‘Abadaba’ and ‘Momby,’ more than words can say. Your love and support mean everything to me.
