Peacock’s Ted Season 2 Becomes No. 1 Comedy Across All Streamers

Peacock’s second season of the show has been a bigger hit than its first, becoming the most-watched comedy on any streaming service. Despite its success, a third season doesn’t seem likely, meaning the show will probably end on a high note.

Since its debut on Peacock in March, Season 2 of Ted has garnered 1.2 billion viewing minutes. According to Nielsen data, this makes it the most-watched original comedy series across all streaming services during that period. Ted also ranks as the No. 1 streaming comedy among men aged 18-34 and is the most popular scripted original series on Peacock within that same audience.

Ted Season 2 Has a Perfect Score on Rotten Tomatoes

As a huge fan, I can tell you the reaction to Ted Lasso Season 2 was incredible! The first season was already well-received with a 74% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but Season 2 absolutely blew it out of the water. It earned a 90% audience score, which really shows how much people loved it. And believe me, a lot of people watched – it seems like everyone who did was completely satisfied with the new episodes.

Despite the new season of Ted being a big hit, it probably won’t get a third season. Creator Seth MacFarlane explained that the show is just too expensive to produce. Because Ted is entirely animated using CGI, MacFarlane compared making each episode to creating a short Avengers movie. This led him to believe the Season 2 finale would likely be the last episode of the series.

Ted Is Incredibly Expensive to Develop

Seth MacFarlane explained to Variety that Peacock and Universal repeatedly told him the show was too costly to produce more affordably. He responded by writing a final scene where Max Burkholder’s character seemingly transforms into Mark Wahlberg from the original Ted movie. MacFarlane, along with showrunners Brad Walsh and Paul Corrigan, essentially created a difficult situation. While he believes a Season 3 is possible, it would likely require a complicated storyline. As of now, there are no concrete plans for another season.

The Ted series tells the story leading up to the two Ted movies. Seth MacFarlane once again provides the voice for Ted, the talking teddy bear, and Mark Burkholder plays a younger version of Mark Wahlberg’s character, John Bennett. Taking place in the mid-1990s, the show centers on the friendship between a teenage John and his living, talking teddy bear. The series also features Alanna Ubach, Scott Grimes, and Giorgia Whigham.
