The Mandalorian Season 4 Plot Revealed

Next month, fans can look forward to the return of The Mandalorian and Grogu in a new season of the show. However, it wasn’t always going to be a season. Creator and director Jon Favreau revealed that they actually wrote scripts for a fourth season of the original Disney+ Star Wars series before deciding to make a movie instead.

Jon Favreau told SFX Magazine that scripts for Season 4 of The Mandalorian were already completed and would have continued the story of Din Djarin and Grogu. However, those plans changed when they decided to continue the story as a movie, forcing him to start writing all new material.

Favreau explained that the scripts weren’t ready for a movie as they were. They had too many characters, relied on viewers already knowing the TV show, and were setting up the plot for the Ahsoka series. The story focused on Grand Admiral Thrawn and continued a bigger, ongoing narrative.

The Mandalorian and Grogu Won’t Use Season 4’s Story

The planned storyline featuring the character Thrawn was put on hold when the next part of The Mandalorian‘s story shifted to become a movie. Jon Favreau, an experienced film director, points out that movies and series require different approaches to storytelling.

Because this project was so different from anything I’d done before, I really had to begin with a fresh approach,” Favreau said. “I had specific ideas I wanted to explore, like the relationship between Grogu and the Mandalorian – a tough warrior teaching a young, defenseless student. Even if you’re new to the series, you’ll quickly understand these characters. And while it connects to the larger Star Wars story and hints at what’s coming next, it still works perfectly well as its own independent film.

What is The Mandalorian and Grogu About?

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been wondering what the upcoming movie will focus on, especially with The Mandalorian and Grogu seemingly moving away from the Thrawn plotline that was expected in Season 4. After everything that happened in Season 3 of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin is now working with the New Republic. They’ve actually hired him to track down some of their most dangerous criminals, so that’s where his story seems to be heading now.

Pedro Pascal, who returns as Din Djarin, explained that the new story arc allows his character to continue bounty hunting, but now working on the side of good. He described it as a blend of skill and morality, a change from when we first meet the Mandalorian, who is driven by skill, his Beskar armor, and adherence to the Mandalorian Creed. His bond with Grogu has softened him, both emotionally and figuratively – he’s becoming less armored and more willing to fight for what’s right.

The Mandalorian and Grogu opens in theaters on May 22 — . The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+.
