Be warned, this article contains spoilers for Outlander season 8, episode 8! The show has introduced a new time travel element, which is a welcome addition as the series heads toward its finale. With only a couple of episodes left, fans are eager to see how Claire and Jamie’s story will end. The upcoming Battle of King’s Mountain promises plenty of action and suspense, and a new, unexpected twist has just been added to the already dramatic events.
A surprising event unfolded for Fanny Pocock in the eighth episode of Outlander season 8. She worried that her sister, Jane, was destined for hell given how she died. Fanny prayed at Jane’s memorial stone, hoping for a sign that her sister’s spirit was present. Almost immediately, she found a gemstone. When she touched it, it felt like it burned her hand, cracked in half, and triggered the familiar buzzing sound.
That was the last we saw of Fanny, and her fate remains unknown for now. But longtime viewers of Outlander will recognize that buzzing sound – it signals someone with the ability to travel through time. It seems very likely Fanny possesses this ability and will soon use it. This is an exciting development, as the show was beginning to feel a little predictable.
Outlander Needs Another Time Travel Element In Its Ending
Season 8 of Outlander has successfully recaptured the show’s original appeal. Before episode 8, though, the storyline felt a little too familiar. Knowing Jamie is fated to die at King’s Mountain, and with the show focusing so much on Claire’s medical skills, it seems likely she’ll be the one to save him. While watching that unfold will be exciting, and the acting by Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan is always superb, it would be a letdown if this turned out to be the whole solution.
While Outlander started as a time-travel story, Claire doesn’t need to travel through time much anymore. Brianna and Roger recently went back to the past to stay safe and don’t want to time travel again. Before the eighth episode, this made it seem like time travel wouldn’t be a major part of the show’s ending. However, Fanny’s new information changes everything.
It would feel odd and disappointing if the show introduced Fanny’s ability to time travel without exploring what she does with it. While it’s still unclear how she travels – whether through stones or along ley lines – that mystery is what makes this new development so interesting. This storyline offers a welcome change of pace from the more predictable plot points, like Jamie’s upcoming battle. Best of all, bringing back the unexplained forces of time travel through Fanny’s story could connect the series back to its original themes and beginnings.
What Fanny’s Future Might Look Like As A Time Traveler
Fanny’s story could go in many different directions now, and that’s precisely what this new development allows. It seems Jane is trying to help Fanny find what she’s looking for, offering clues after Fanny found the strange gemstone. If time travel is involved, it will probably connect to Faith’s story from Outlander.
Fanny has the ability to travel to important moments in the past, revealing anything Jane wants her to learn. She might revisit events from Outlander season 2 to understand how Master Raymond revived her mother, Faith. It’s also possible she’ll journey back to Jane’s childhood, meeting her family before she was born. Fanny could even witness key moments in Claire’s life, potentially connecting their stories.
I can’t believe there are only two episodes of Outlander left! It feels like anything could happen, and honestly, that’s what’s so exciting. The show is definitely taking a different path than the books by Diana Gabaldon, which means we’re all in for a real shock. I don’t even know if this new direction will lead to a good ending, but the fact that I don’t know is actually a really good thing – it keeps me hooked!
