New Elden Ring Expansion Officially Has the Best FromSoftware Boss Fights

Elden Ring, released in 2022 by FromSoftware, is widely considered one of the greatest action RPGs ever made – many even prefer it to the Dark Souls series. While its incredible combat is a major reason for its success, there’s always potential to make it even better.

Elden Ring, created by Hidetaka Miyazaki and Yui Tanimura, is known for its incredible battles, and a new mod promises to make the fighting even more challenging. Although there aren’t any plans for new official expansions like Shadow of the Erdtree or spin-off games like Elden Ring: Nightrein right now, the game’s dedicated modding community is creating new content to keep the experience fresh.

Elden Ring Feels Like a Brand-New Game Again

The mod Sword Heart Shura-Total Combat, created by RuntimeQAQ on Nexus Mods, dramatically enhances the combat in Elden Ring with a brand new experience. Released in April, it’s planned to receive updates through December 2026, making it enjoyable for both veteran players who have spent many hours in the game and newcomers who are just starting out.

According to RuntimeQAQ, to truly enjoy this mod, you need to unlearn everything you know about fighting in Elden Ring and embrace a completely different approach. Your previous skills won’t be useful, and you’ll have to relearn – or learn for the first time – how to properly defend and attack.

While boss battles, including the challenging fight with Malenia, are the same in this updated version of Elden Ring, they’ll feel quite different due to the drastically changed gameplay of Sword Heart Shura-Total Combat.

As a fan, I’m really excited about this mod! It completely changes how combat feels in Elden Ring, making it more like other action RPGs I love – think games like The First Berserker, Wo Long, Rise of the Ronin, or even Black Myth: Wukong. The creator, RuntimeQAQ, says the goal isn’t to make the game harder or easier, just to give you a different, more interactive way to fight, especially during those epic boss battles.

Fans of Elden Ring can find a complete overview of changes in Sword Heart Shura-Total Combat. RuntimeQAQ details the modifications to deflecting, counter attacks, clash attacks, Combat Arts, and Ashes of War. They also explain adjustments to weapon mechanics, status effects, critical hits, Power Stance, and enemy stats.

A new climbing system lets you jump and vault over obstacles, much like in the game RuntimeQAQ mentions.
