Liam Neeson has been a major action star since his role in 1995’s Rob Roy. He’s gone on to star in popular franchises like Taken and Star Wars, as well as films like The Grey, Kingdom of Heaven, The Dark Knight trilogy, and A Walk Among the Tombstones. Interestingly, he even appeared in the romantic comedy Love, Actually, which is known for being surprisingly intense! In 2010, he revived the classic 1980s action series The A-Team with a reboot that, despite being unexpected, was quite good. With a strong supporting cast and a passable script, Neeson helped make the reboot a success, and it’s still popular with audiences today on streaming platforms.
You can now watch The A-Team on Starz, and it’s also available as an add-on through Amazon Prime Video. It was through this channel that the show originally told the story of a skilled team of soldiers wrongly convicted of a crime and sent to prison. Recently, the A-Team reboot has become a weekly Top 10 hit on Starz through Amazon, though Sydney Sweeney’s The Housemaid currently holds the number one spot.
Joe Carnahan, known for films like The Grey and Smokin’ Aces, directed The A-Team, which is a modern take on the classic 1983 television series. While the original cast – George Peppard, Dwight Schultz, Dirk Benedict, Mr. T, and John Ashley – didn’t return, the reboot features Liam Neeson as Hannibal, Bradley Cooper as Face, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as B.A. Baracus, and Sharlto Copley as Murdock. Patrick Wilson and Jessica Biel also star, and the film includes brief appearances by some of the actors from the original series.
‘The A-Team’ Is an Entertaining, if Unmemorable Action Flick
Joe Carnahan’s remake of The A-Team updates the classic ’80s series for a modern audience and expands the story to fit a full-length movie. Instead of Vietnam veterans, this team consists of soldiers who served in the Iraq War, and they find themselves falsely accused of a crime. They must work together to prove their innocence and stop a dangerous situation, all while facing off against Charissa Sosa, a former colleague with ties to one of the team members.
The remake of The A-Team doesn’t live up to the original series—most people would agree on that. However, it’s still a pretty good action movie. While critics weren’t impressed (giving it a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), audiences seem to enjoy it much more, with a 66% score. It’s not a groundbreaking film, but it delivers plenty of explosive action, a strong cast, and lots of gunfights, making it a fun watch.
‘The A-Team’ Is “More Like the B-Team, Fool!”

While fans of action movies might have enjoyed The A-Team, the renowned film critic Roger Ebert was not among them. He awarded the film a mere 1.5 out of 4 stars and strongly criticized it, describing it as a confusing and chaotic experience. He pointed out that the characters were essentially the same as in the original TV series, which worked for a sitcom, but felt stretched and excessive in a two-hour movie format, making it feel like a punishment to watch.
