On-set pictures from the upcoming third season reveal that Marvel is recasting one of its scariest villains. Thanos (Josh Brolin) was a truly frightening character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, famously seeking the Infinity Stones and eliminating half of all life in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. But last year, Marvel introduced a villain that many found even more terrifying.
As a huge Daredevil fan, I’m completely hooked by Daredevil: Born Again. It’s really brought the intense rivalry between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin to the forefront, and it’s more dramatic than ever. But it hasn’t just been Kingpin causing trouble since Daredevil rejoined the MCU. We’ve seen him face off against Bullseye, Echo, Leapfrog, and even a really creepy villain who goes by The Hood. Though, it looks like someone new is going to take over as Daredevil’s haunting adversary soon.
Heather Glenn Will Become the New Muse in Daredevil: Born Again
Even though Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is still being released on Disney+, work on the next season has already started. Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again is currently planned to come out in 2027, and pictures from the set have given fans a sneak peek at what’s to come.
In the upcoming season, Matt Murdock will be behind bars, while Wilson Fisk sports a new beard. Sheila Rivera is also a contender for mayor of New York. Photos from the set of Daredevil: Born Again also show that Heather Glenn will be taking on a role similar to the one previously held by Muse.
Glenn suffered a traumatic attack by Muse in the first season of Born Again. This experience continues to haunt her in season two, manifesting in disturbing behaviors. She’s been stealing from Vanessa Fisk, acting out violent scenarios with Buck Cashman, and becoming fixated on Muse’s mask – which she still possesses.
Throughout Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again, we’ve watched Heather Glenn, Matt Murdock’s ex-girlfriend and a skilled psychologist, slowly fall into despair. The show uses creative camera work, impactful music, and a powerfully emotional performance by actress Deborah Ann Woll to illustrate her descent.
I’m so excited to see Heather Glenn finally get her due! While she never became Muse in the original comics, the writers are hinting that her story in Season 3 of Born Again will actually give her that chance. It’s a big change, but I think it’s going to be amazing to see her become the hero she deserves to be.
Who Is the New Muse in Marvel Comics?
Following a brief relationship with Matt Murdock in Marvel Comics, a new character takes on a similar role to the villain known as Muse, but is instead controlled by the Purple Man. The original Muse, who first appeared in Daredevil (Vol. 5) #11 in 2016, is eventually succeeded by Morgan Whittier, a young artist from Nassau County.
Muse was a dangerously unstable supervillain who created art using the bodies of his victims, including Inhumans and police officers. This drew the attention of Daredevil and Blindspot, who began investigating him. After a battle with Blindspot, Muse seemingly died in a fire, but his spirit was condemned to Hell. Even there, he continued to make art from the pain and suffering of others, until he encountered a fragmented piece of Morgan Whittier’s soul.
After returning to Earth, she was emotionally fragile, making it easy for Muse to control her and convince her to carry on his work. He appeared to her as a ghost, urging her to take on the role of the new Muse. This ghostly appearance of Muse to Morgan Whittier is strikingly similar to the disturbing visions and unsettling thoughts Heather Glenn experiences in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again.
Muse, driven by a desire to torment Elektra, murdered her teacher, leading to a fatal showdown where both she and Elektra perished and were condemned to Hell. Even in Hell, Muse attempted to manipulate Whittier, but eventually regretted her actions and wished for final death. When she unexpectedly returned to life, she was immediately taken into custody.
Bringing Muse Back to the MCU Is the Right Choice
While it’s doubtful we’ll see all the demonic aspects of this story in the realistic, gritty Daredevil: Born Again series, the recent developments leave open the possibility of exploring Muse’s fate in Hell at some point.
Instead of physically appearing, Muse will probably show up as a hallucination within Heather Glenn’s thoughts—a result of the trauma she experienced after being attacked and nearly killed by the villain in Born Again Season 1. Muse was first presented as a compelling and dangerous new villain in Born Again Season 1.
It was disappointing that we didn’t get to see much of the character before his death at the hands of Heather Glenn in Episode 7, “Art for Art’s Sake.” Some fans have questioned why Marvel keeps having Daredevil fight Kingpin. That’s why Muse’s appearance was so welcome, and it’s exciting to know his story will continue in Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again.
Now that Matt Murdock is in prison, New York City will become much more dangerous in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3. This creates an opportunity for new villains to emerge, and Heather Glenn, a.k.a. Muse, is one of them. Considering the trauma she’s experienced, her turn towards villainy is understandable.
On-set pictures from the Marvel movie confirm the actress looks exactly like the villain she’s playing. Fans are already excited to see her performance.
