Keanu Reeves stars in the lead role. If you enjoy his action-packed performances, you might also like the film Sisu, which is currently very popular on Netflix worldwide.
According to FlixPatrol, Sisu is currently very popular on Netflix in several countries. The film, a Finnish-American production, ranks as the seventh most-watched title in places like Chile, Jamaica, and Panama. It even reached number six in Argentina, Peru, and Uruguay. Sisu is also performing well on Apple TV in Zimbabwe and on Voyo in Slovakia.
What Is Sisu About?
The movie centers on Aatami Korpi, a famous Finnish commando nicknamed the “one-man death squad,” who has left fighting behind to become a gold prospector. Set during World War II, the story follows Aatami as he searches for gold with his horse and dog until his journey is interrupted by SS soldiers.
The soldiers greatly underestimate Aatami, and he single-handedly defeats them before riding off. This draws the attention of Bruno Helldorf, a high-ranking officer, who begins to pursue Aatami, putting both his horse and dog in danger. Sisu features Jorma Tommila as Aatami Korpi, Aksel Hennie as Bruno Helldorf, and Jack Doolan as Wolf, Helldorf’s second-in-command.
Jalmari Helander, the director behind the popular film Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, wrote and directed Sisu. If you enjoyed the action in John Wick and are a fan of World War II movies, Sisu is definitely worth checking out. The film was a big success when it came out and a sequel followed soon after.
Sisu Was Also a Hit with Critics
The film has been praised by critics and is also proving popular with audiences. It currently has a 94% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on reviews. Wendy Ide of The Observer described it as, “Sometimes all you want is a tough Finnish gold prospector constantly defeating cartoonish villains in creative and violent ways.”
Linda Marric of The Jewish Chronicle likened the film to Inglourious Basterds, describing it as having all the satisfying violence of that movie condensed into a fast-paced, low-budget B-movie. David Stratton from The Australian called it “very silly” but praised its over-the-top nature as surprisingly enjoyable.
The film Sisu impressed not just critics, but also Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear. He lauded the movie’s action, comparing it to classics like Rambo, and expressed interest in creating a video game featuring a character inspired by Sisu‘s protagonist.
If you enjoy action-packed thrillers and revenge stories with plenty of violence, you won’t want to miss Sisu. And if you’re a fan of World War II films but are looking for something different – and much more brutal – Sisu and Sisu: Road to Revenge are excellent options.
I’m so excited everyone can now watch Sisu! It’s currently streaming on Netflix in a lot of countries, and if you’re in the US, you can find it on Prime Video.
