A recent report indicates that Marvel might revive Iron Fist, a hero who’s been a frequent topic of discussion among fans. Despite his show being canceled years ago, Iron Fist could be getting another opportunity within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
New Iron Fist project rumored to be in development
A source claiming to be reliable, MyTimeToShineHello, reports that Marvel Studios is developing a new project featuring Danny Rand, also known as Iron Fist. While this hasn’t been officially confirmed by Marvel, the insider posted on X (formerly Twitter) that a project with Iron Fist as the main character is in the works.
Previously, it was revealed that Luke Cage and Iron Fist were also planned to each have their own series. This new project might be that shared show, or it could be a separate series continuing Iron Fist’s storyline.
If confirmed, this would be a surprising turn of events for a show that almost didn’t happen. Netflix cancelled Marvel’s Iron Fist in 2018 after just two seasons, shortly after the latest episodes were released. Marvel and Netflix jointly announced the cancellation, stating that a third season wouldn’t be produced (according to Deadline).
Marvel Television and Netflix are proud of the show and appreciate the dedication of its talented cast, crew, and creative leaders. They also thank the fans for watching and for their collaboration on the series. Although the show won’t continue on Netflix, the character of Iron Fist will appear in other projects.
Looking back, that last sentence from the original announcement seems surprisingly accurate. It now appears Danny Rand’s best chance to become important again is through a connection to the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. The Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again has already re-introduced several characters from the old Netflix shows into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Daredevil, Wilson Fisk, Punisher, Bullseye, and Karen Page. Krysten Ritter, who played Jessica Jones, is also likely to appear soon.
New pictures suggest Luke Cage and Iron Fist will be joining the current storyline, bringing almost all of the Defenders team together. If a recent rumor is true, fans haven’t seen the last of Iron Fist.
