Liam Neeson’s new reboot of a 44-year-old franchise blows up into a Netflix streaming sensation.

Liam Neeson first gained recognition for his performance in Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List (1993), earning him an Oscar nomination. He’s also well-remembered for roles like Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), Ra’s al Ghul in Batman Begins (2005), and Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia films (2005–2010). But since 2008, Neeson has become known as an action star thanks to the Taken movies and other action films. Recently, he’s found success with a revived action comedy franchise that’s become a popular streaming hit.

I’m totally hooked on The Naked Gun! It just came out in theaters almost nine months ago, but it’s become a huge streaming hit. It’s so funny – Akiva Schaffer directed it, and he wrote the script with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. Liam Neeson plays Frank Drebin’s son, and he’s trying to solve a murder to save Police Squad, just like his dad did. It’s a really fun action comedy!

As of today, April 21st, The Naked Gun (2025) is currently the 7th most popular movie on Netflix worldwide. It’s behind 180, Thrash, Roommates, The Interpreter, Espace Plan 2: Hades, and Shooter, but ahead of titles like A Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough, Toaster, and Despicable Me 4, which is in 10th place. It was originally released in theaters last August.

This week, the comedy film The Naked Gun is a top 10 hit on Netflix in 20 countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. While it’s not currently on Netflix in the U.S., you can stream The Naked Gun on Prime Video, Paramount+, and MGM+.

The new Naked Gun movie features a cast including Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Danny Huston, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Liza Koshy, Cody Rhodes, and Busta Rhymes. Several personalities will also appear as themselves, such as Jon Anik, Dave Bautista, Michael Bisping, Bruce Buffer, John McCarthy, Justin Gaethje, Kamaru Usman, and Weird Al Yankovic. Priscilla Presley is returning to play Jane Spencer-Drebin, the wife of the late Frank Drebin and mother to Frank Drebin Jr.

Critics generally liked the new Naked Gun movie, giving it an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. They especially appreciated that it successfully recaptured the wild, funny spirit of the original films. Reviewers also highlighted the great comedic contrast between Liam Neeson’s serious delivery and the movie’s silly, over-the-top humor.

Viewers also liked the new Naked Gun movie, giving it a 72% approval rating. They especially praised Liam Neeson’s performance as Drebin and the film’s consistently funny, over-the-top humor, which provided a constant stream of laughs.

While the original The Naked Gun movie earned over $102 million at the box office – a reasonable amount given its $42 million cost – the recent reboot has found much greater success through streaming. It quickly became the most-watched movie on Prime Video after its release in late December 2025, and now The Naked Gun reboot is a hit with viewers worldwide on Netflix.
