One ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ Star Left Season 2 Over a Pay Dispute

The second season of Ahsoka is predicted to premiere on Disney+ in 2026, three years after the first season ended. Most of the original cast, including Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Eman Esfandi, Ivanna Sakhno, Lars Mikkelsen, and Hayden Christensen, will be back. However, Claudia Black, known for her roles in Pitch Black and Stargate SG-1, will not be returning.

In an interview with Bleeding Cool, actress Diana Black, who played Mother Klothow in Season 1 of Ahsoka, explained she wasn’t able to film for the next season due to a disagreement with Disney over pay. While disappointed with how things ended, Black expressed her gratitude to Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni and shared how much being part of the Star Wars universe meant to her.

I want to be upfront about what happened. The show was renewed for a second season, and I was brought back as well. However, Disney is handling things differently now, and they weren’t able to offer me a salary that would allow me to manage my responsibilities as a single mother in Los Angeles, especially since filming was taking place in London. Unfortunately, that meant I had to leave the show for season two.

I was really moved by the experience. I emailed Dave Filoni, simply saying, “What a journey!” As someone who loved Star Wars growing up in the 70s and 80s, it was a dream come true to work in such a creative and fun environment. I’m so thankful I had the chance to be a part of that universe, surrounded by wonderful people and directors. Working with ‘The Volume’ – their incredibly high-tech set – was fascinating. It was amazing to see George Lucas’s long-held vision come to life, a vision people once thought was impossible, and to even speak with the company that made it a reality.

Disney Has Been Shifting Its Priorities with ‘Star Wars’

It’s unknown if the character Mother Klothow will return for Season 2 of Ahsoka, or if she’ll be removed from the show. This is the second time the season has had to change its cast, but this situation is different. The role of Baylan Skoll has been recast with Roy McCann after the original actor, Ray Stevenson, sadly passed away just before Season 1 aired in 2023.

Susan Black’s observations about Disney’s restructuring reflect a broader pattern of cost-cutting at the company. This isn’t new for Disney – several Marvel actors, including Jeremy Renner and Carrie Coon, have previously mentioned that Disney attempted to negotiate lower salaries for their return to Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.

To save money, Disney is shifting big franchises like Marvel and Star Wars away from streaming and back to movie theaters. Currently, only a second season of the Star Wars series Ahsoka is confirmed for live-action television. Disney is now focusing more on making Star Wars movies. This means they’ve cancelled plans for a fourth season of The Mandalorian and are instead creating a film called The Mandalorian & Grogu. Following that, they plan to release Star Wars: Starfighter and a new film starring Daisy Ridley as Rey.
