George Clooney Reacts To His Worst-Reviewed Film Ever: “It Was Just A Disaster”

George Clooney‘s career has flourished since his early days, starting with a small role as Ron in the low-budget horror film Grizzly II: Revenge.

In an interview with Ash Crossan for ScreenRant and Jay Kelly, the Academy Award-winning actor remembered how thrilled he was to land his very first movie role. He said, “I was 22 years old, and I just thought, ‘This is going to be amazing!'”

Clooney didn’t realize his acting career would begin with being left in the lurch by producers who were struggling with money.

He explained that it was his first professional job, and he was just grateful to be working. However, things quickly went wrong when the group got stranded in Budapest after running out of funds, and they were abandoned there.

The movie Grizzly II: Revenge was never completed and sat forgotten until George Clooney became a huge star. His popularity convinced the production company to finish and release it, hoping his name would attract audiences to the long-delayed horror film.

Released on video-on-demand in 2021, Grizzly II received very negative reviews, currently holding an 8% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This makes it one of the most critically panned films in George Clooney’s career.

Clooney remembers finally watching the movie, which had been significantly delayed and was ultimately a mess. He explains, “They filled it with random stock footage of bears and other things,” and adds, “It was just a complete disaster.”

The film is a complete failure, and unfortunately features Laura Dern, another Oscar winner alongside George Clooney. Both actors also appear in Noah Baumbach’s new movie, Jay Kelly, which makes this a reunion for the cast of the cult classic Grizzly II.

George Clooney and Jeff Dern reunited on screen more than forty years after appearing in a low-budget film where their characters died early on – a movie about a bear seeking revenge. They fondly remembered and laughed about their early acting days while discussing it.

Clooney recently shared a funny story about an old movie he and Laura made. He said they were joking about getting bad reviews for a film they shot decades ago. He explained that Laura was only around fifteen at the time, and their characters were killed off right at the beginning, but the movie still oddly credited them as starring roles.

The movie Grizzly II: Revenge boasts an impressive cast, featuring Charlie Sheen, Academy Award winner Louise Fletcher (making three Oscar-winning actors in the film), a brief appearance by Timothy Spall (known for Harry Potter), and John Rhys-Davies, famous for his roles in Lord of the Rings and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The movie has a fantastic cast, rivaling that of Jay Kelly. Alongside George Clooney and Laura Dern, you’ll find stars like Adam Sandler, Greta Gerwig, Riley Keough, Isla Fisher, Eve Hewson, Patrick Wilson, and Stacy Keach.

The new film starring George Clooney has received mostly positive reviews, earning a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It began playing in select theaters on November 14th and will be available to stream on Netflix starting December 5th.
