DC Officially Changes Title of Batman’s Next TV Show

A new Batman series is in the works, but its original title has been updated. While fans are currently enjoying Season 2 of *Peacemaker*, which is part of James Gunn’s developing DC Universe, a character closely linked to Batman has already shown up in that series. Although the DCU hasn’t revealed who will play Batman yet, another Batman-focused show is still planned for release in November 2025, separate from the main DC Universe.

A new animated Batman show from DC Comics recently had a name change. It was originally called *Bat-Family*, but was shortened to *Bat-Fam* without any prior announcement.

Amazon Prime Video, where the show formerly known as *Bat-Family* will debut, and DC have officially announced the new title. They revealed the change on social media with a first look at the series, referring to it as *Bat-Fam* instead of *Bat-Family*.

The new image from the upcoming Prime Video series *Bat-Fam* shows Batman smiling and holding a batarang. He’s joined by Damien Wayne, who will be a key character and is appearing as a young version of Batman, nicknamed “Little Batman.”

The ‘Bat-Fam’ project isn’t the only DC title to get a new name. Several DCU projects – both those already out and those still to come – have recently been retitled.

DC’s Recent Superhero Movie & TV Title Changes

Birds of Prey

The movie *Birds of Prey*, starring Margot Robbie, had its title altered while it was in theaters. It originally released as *Birds of Prey*, but was later changed to *Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey*.

There’s been some confusion about why the movie’s title was altered, and some reports even claim it wasn’t officially changed. However, theaters clearly switched from showing just *Birds of Prey* to *Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey* – especially after the film wasn’t doing well in theaters – so a change definitely happened, even if it wasn’t formally announced.

Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler

The TV show *Pennyworth* aired for three seasons. After the second season, Warner Bros. renamed it *Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler*.

The show *Pennyworth* struggled to find a large audience in its early seasons. Warner Bros. tried rebranding it with the Batman name, hoping to attract more viewers, but this didn’t improve its ratings.

Superman

Fans of DC will recall that James Gunn’s *Superman* movie was originally going to be called *Superman: Legacy*. DC Studios even designed a logo for that title, but later decided to simply call the film *Superman*.

The title change probably didn’t have much of an impact on the movie’s success. In retrospect, though, *Superman* seems like a stronger title because it was simpler and more direct.

Supergirl

The next DC Universe movie will be *Supergirl*, featuring the character first seen at the end of the 2025 film *Superman*. The movie’s title has changed; it was initially going to be called *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*.

Fans were puzzled when the “Woman of Tomorrow” storyline was removed from the upcoming *Supergirl* movie, especially since it was based on a comic book of the same name. However, James Gunn recently revealed that a *Superman* sequel, titled *Man of Tomorrow*, is now planned. Having two movies with such similar titles – *Woman of Tomorrow* and *Man of Tomorrow* – would have likely caused confusion.

Bat-Fam

Following the 2023 animated movie *Merry Little Batman*, a new show called *Bat-Fam* is on the way. It’s confirmed to premiere on Prime Video in November 2025, though an exact date hasn’t been announced yet.
