During the first two seasons of Interview with the Vampire – now available on Netflix – the story is told from Louis du Pointe du Lac’s perspective. This means our understanding of characters like Claudia, Armand, and especially Lestat, is influenced by his opinions and recollections. But everything shifted in the final scene of Season 2 with Louis and Lestat, and I need to explain why it’s been constantly on my mind.
In this particular scene, Jacob Anderson’s character, Louis, is back in New Orleans after many years away. Following a city tour where he hears a funny, but inaccurate story about his past with Lestat, he seeks out the French vampire. This was the first time we see Sam Reid’s portrayal of the vampire in the present timeline, and that’s what makes this moment so memorable for me.
It’s The Only Scene Louis And Lestat Share In The Present
I’ve often been curious about why we hadn’t seen Claudia or Lestat in current times, and Season 2 of this adaptation of Anne Rice’s novels finally explained that. The last episode, available to stream on AMC+, revealed that the young vampire had died, and that Louis and the French vampire had grown apart after their last meeting in Paris.
It turns out, a big part of the issue was that Louis never knew the full story of what Lestat did during his trial. He thought Armand saved him, but it was actually Lestat! So when they finally meet again in New Orleans – their first *real* conversation in decades – they finally talk about what really happened. It’s a huge moment where Anderson’s character finally understands everything Reid’s character did for him.
Louis expressed his gratitude to Lestat for what he called a “gift.” Then, Lestat gently inquired about the night in San Francisco, emotionally asking if Louis had been injured, and the two of them mourned the loss of Claudia. Based purely on the dialogue, this is the most emotionally raw scene in the show. But it’s the scene’s honesty and authenticity that truly make it stunning and memorable.
It’s Also The Only Scene Involving Lestat That Isn’t From Louis’ Perspective
One of the main reasons why Interview with the Vampire is considered one of the best vampire shows is its storytelling. The first two seasons of this show about living forever are told from Louis’ perspective, and as the story unfolds, it’s revealed that his memory isn’t perfect, and he doesn’t always tell things exactly as they happened. He’s what’s called an unreliable narrator. This means you need to view every flashback – essentially every scene with Lestat – with a bit of skepticism.
Season 3 Of Interview With A Vampire Is Coming

Season 3 of Interview with a Vampire is on its way, but it’s getting a new title: The Vampire Lestat. This season will be told from Lestat’s perspective, showing us what it’s like as he lives a life as a rock star. Get ready, because it promises to be an exciting season!
However, the last scene they have together stands out; it isn’t a memory from the past, nor is it a story Louis is recounting to Daniel for his book. Instead, this scene set in New Orleans happens in the present moment. It doesn’t have a narrator – at least, not from my perspective – and that makes it the most straightforward, genuine, and unedited conversation between Louis and Lestat.
This scene would still be emotionally impactful even if it were a memory shown from Louis’ perspective. However, the fact that they reunited face-to-face after a long time-not during an interview, but in the present moment-confirms that it actually happened.
It wasn’t affected by bias. It wasn’t hindered by past experiences or imperfections. It was just the latest conversation between Louis and Lestat, recorded precisely as it unfolded.
However, that isn’t true for the rest of the narrative, and that, my dear friends, is the reason I keep revisiting Louis and Lestat’s last conversation in Season 2.
