Zack Snyder’s work on the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) sparked a lot of debate, but it definitely produced some visually stunning moments. Even though he stepped away from DC in 2017 while making Justice League, people often still call the DCEU the “Snyderverse.” Snyder had a lasting impact on the franchise, and he either directed or helped create some of the most popular DC movies.
The DC Extended Universe, often called the Snyderverse, had a decade-long run, beginning with Man of Steel in 2013 and concluding with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023. Some films, like Wonder Woman, were consistently well-received, while others, such as The Flash, didn’t quite hit the mark. Despite its inconsistencies, the DCEU delivered some truly memorable scenes and moments.
10. Superman vs. Faora-Ul and Nam-Ek (Man of Steel)
While not the first Superman film, Man of Steel stood out because it finally brought the intense, large-scale battles from the comics to life. Earlier movies couldn’t fully capture those epic fights due to limitations in special effects technology. Man of Steel, however, overcame those hurdles, as seen in the fight between Superman and Faora-Ul and Nam-Ek.
As a huge Superman fan, I remember being absolutely blown away by the fight scenes in Man of Steel. Before that, it was hard to imagine how they could show Superman really fighting on screen and make it as exciting as the comics. But thanks to the incredible visual effects and Zack Snyder’s direction, that Smallville battle was just… epic. The destruction, the speed, the sheer power of those Kryptonians – it felt bigger and more impactful than anything we’d seen from Superman before. Even now, years later, it’s still a genuinely thrilling sequence to watch.
9. Harley Quinn’s Police Station Fight (Birds of Prey)
Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn was a highlight of the DC Extended Universe, and she truly shined in one particularly memorable scene. In Birds of Prey, a fight sequence with a group of prisoners demonstrated why Harley was such a compelling character in those films. The scene was not only an action standout for the DCEU, but also a fantastic moment for Harley’s character development.
The fight scene in Birds of Prey perfectly captures Harley Quinn’s wild and unpredictable nature. From the energetic music and sudden sprinklers to her amazing moves and forceful use of her baseball bat, everything feels true to her character. The scene is skillfully planned and set to music, and it contributes to the film’s overall message of Harley finding her independence.
8. Lex Luthor Blackmails Superman (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice)
The scene in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice where Lex Luthor threatens Superman by kidnapping his mother is incredibly tense, even without any physical fighting. While Jesse Eisenberg’s performance as Lex Luthor was controversial, this scene proved why he was cast in the role. In a single moment, simply by mentioning Martha Kent, Lex transforms from an annoying and privileged young man into a genuinely menacing villain.
The biggest impact of this scene comes from Lex’s shocking plan, but it’s also surprisingly rich with detail. His reasons for despising Superman are actually quite convincing, and kidnapping Martha provides the perfect reason for Superman to clash with Batman. This setup is crucial, as it leads to a powerful moment later when Batman ultimately saves Martha’s life, mirroring Superman’s own motivations. Despite being promoted as an action-packed fight, this scene with Lex is a surprisingly nuanced character study.
7. Arthur Rides The Karathen (Aquaman)
Look, Jason Momoa is Aquaman, and his most iconic moment, in my opinion, happens in his first standalone film. The finale of Aquaman is just spectacular – seeing Arthur ride in on the back of the leviathan Karathen as he confronts Orm’s army is a genuinely thrilling highlight. What really makes it work, though, is how well it caps off the entire movie. It’s a huge, sweeping underwater story, and this scene delivers a perfectly epic and satisfying conclusion.
The moment when Arthur rides the Karathen was a fantastic ending to the movie Aquaman, and a fitting conclusion to his story of becoming king. Beyond that, the scene is visually stunning. The special effects are excellent, the underwater battleground feels both otherworldly and gorgeous, and the Karathen itself is both frightening and captivating.
6. The Flash Reverses Time (Zack Snyder’s Justice League)
A standout moment from the DCEU actually wasn’t in the theatrical cut of Justice League. Joss Whedon removed a key scene from Zack Snyder’s version where the Flash travels back in time to defeat Steppenwolf and save everyone. This scene was arguably the most impactful, unexpected, and thematically relevant part of the film. It provided a satisfying conclusion to the Flash’s character arc and was a truly surprising twist for superhero fans.
The Flash’s time-travel sequence was a stunning visual achievement, like many of the best moments in Zack Snyder’s films. Snyder’s depiction of super speed – using lightning effects and lots of slow motion – is rarely surpassed. Combined with a powerful musical score and the scene’s emotional weight within the story, it stands out as one of the highlights of the DCEU.
5. Superman Battles the Justice League (Zack Snyder’s Justice League)
A standout moment in both cuts of Justice League is when Superman returns to life after his death in Batman v Superman. Disoriented, he fights the other heroes, immediately demonstrating his incredible strength and solidifying his place as DC’s most powerful superhero. It’s still considered one of the best examples of just how powerful Superman truly is.
The fight between Superman and the Justice League is full of fantastic details. Moments like him taking Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth, keeping pace with the Flash, and easily defeating Aquaman really made it stand out as one of the best scenes in the Snyderverse films. The scene concluded beautifully with Lois Lane helping to calm Clark Kent, which was a perfect touch and added even more impact.
4. Superman Fights Steppenwolf (Zack Snyder’s Justice League)
The best fight scene featuring Superman in the entire DC Extended Universe happened in Zack Snyder’s Justice League when he battled Steppenwolf. Like his earlier fight with the Justice League, it showcased Superman’s incredible power and speed, but it also had deeper meaning. This time, fighting alongside his teammates made the scene even more exciting.
As a huge movie fan, I have to say that Superman’s battle with Steppenwolf was everything I’d hoped for! It finally felt like we were really watching the Justice League team up, and it showcased their combined power in a big way. It was a moment the entire DCEU had been building towards, and Superman absolutely delivered. Honestly, the action was incredible – the fight choreography, the special effects… it had everything you could want from a superhero team-up!
3. Batman’s Warehouse Fight (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice)
Many fans consider the fight scene in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to be the best in any Batman movie – and that’s high praise, given how many films have featured the character. While Batman v Superman as a whole isn’t a perfect portrayal of Batman, the warehouse fight where he rescues Martha Kent stands out as one of his most exciting and memorable battles.
The warehouse fight in Batman v Superman was a high point, and if the rest of the movie had matched its quality, the film would be much better regarded. The scene excelled in every way – from Batman’s raw and intense fighting style and clever takedowns of opponents, to the gritty visuals and the emotional weight of Martha’s situation. It was a truly gripping battle that kept audiences engaged.
2. Wonder Woman’s No Man’s Land Walk (Wonder Woman)
A standout feature of Wonder Woman, and a hallmark of the Snyderverse, was its ability to blend incredible superhero power with realistic and relatable settings. The scene of Wonder Woman crossing No Man’s Land perfectly exemplifies this – it combined high-stakes action with deeply personal moments for both Diana and the soldiers, all while showcasing her amazing abilities.
Diana’s first walk was meant to showcase her strength, and the scene is made even better by the exciting fight that follows. Her battle with the German soldiers is one of the most thrilling and energetic fights in the entire DC Extended Universe. Wonder Woman also stands out for its clever use of slow-motion – it used the effect much more carefully and powerfully than other films in the Snyderverse.
1. Superman’s First Flight (Man of Steel)
It’s perhaps no surprise that the strongest moment from the entire DC Extended Universe came in the very first film. Henry Cavill’s initial flight as Superman in Man of Steel remains a truly iconic superhero movie scene. The moment is magical, combining a sense of incredible speed and wonder with stunning visuals and special effects.
Superman’s initial flight isn’t just visually impressive; it’s the most significant moment in Zack Snyder’s DC films because it showed what he could bring to the character. The scene from Man of Steel brilliantly combined the classic idea of Superman flying – echoing the famous tagline, ‘You will believe a man can fly’ – with Snyder’s modern filmmaking techniques and special effects.
Superman’s initial flight is truly breathtaking and represents the peak of what the DC Extended Universe could achieve. At its best, the Snyderverse delivered stunning visuals, intense excitement, and a deep understanding of what makes these DC characters so beloved. That first flight scene embodied all of these qualities and remains the most impressive moment in the entire DCEU.
