Apple TV+ is already known for its popular science fiction series, including hits like Severance, Silo, and Foundation. Now, with the addition of shows like My Brother the Minotaur, it’s poised to become a leading platform for animated content as well.
Before the show premieres on April 24th, viewers are getting a first look at Lorcan, a Minotaur – a creature from Greek mythology with the head of a bull and the body of a man. As you can imagine, being a Minotaur presents a lot of challenges for him.
My Brother the Minotaur Sets Lorcan Up in New Clip
My Brother the Minotaur is an exciting story that blends myth, mystery, and adventure. It follows a young minotaur—a creature that’s half boy, half bull—who grows up among humans. With the unwavering support of his human brother, he gathers a courageous group of friends to discover the secrets of his origins and embrace his fate, all while fighting against powerful enemies who want to see him fall.
The story centers on Lorcan, a 12-year-old boy who was adopted as a baby. He lives with the McCready family: his parents, Clara and Archie, his curious younger brother, Charlie, and his grandparents, Olivia and George. Lorcan’s grandparents are part of a group called the Elders, who are responsible for keeping the island’s secrets safe—including a mysterious gateway to another world.
In a sneak peek, Charlie and Lorcan come across a shop that’s been robbed and start to investigate. The townspeople quickly jump to a conclusion, blaming Lorcan for the crime. While some believe the accusation, others aren’t so sure, though one child claims to have overheard Lorcan say he was losing control. When the police arrive, they decide not to arrest Lorcan because there’s no proof he did anything wrong.
The animated show boasts a talented cast including Ely Solan as Lorcan, along with Billy Jenkins, Luciana Akpobaro, and Billie Boullet. It also features established actors Michael Sheen, Paul Kaye, and T’Nia Miller. Donal Mangan created the series, and Maurice Joyce directed it.
Apple TV revealed its new, large-scale adventure series on March 17th, and it quickly became available to stream.
My Brother the Minotaur Is Already Earning Praise
The New York Times’ Connie Chang has already given the series a glowing review, calling it “visually stunning.” While more reviews are expected after the show premieres, the publication highlighted its beautiful animation. They compared the style of My Brother the Minotaur to other works from Cartoon Saloon, noting its painterly quality and how it captures the beauty of its natural, rural setting, reminiscent of classic Celtic art and medieval illuminated manuscripts.
Although the story involves mythical creatures, My Brother the Minotaur deals with very real issues—like finding where you fit in, balancing different parts of yourself, and whether chosen family can heal the pain of being rejected by your own.
My Brother the Minotaur premieres on Apr. 24 on Apple TV.
