Warning! This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 6.
In the sixth episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, Krysten Ritter returned as Jessica Jones, marking her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the show also revealed significant changes to her character. Meanwhile, the episode dealt with the aftermath of Vanessa’s death, showing a grieving Wilson Fisk at her bedside and then mourning her loss.
Episode 6 explores the aftermath of the recent tragedy and really kicks the series into high gear as we head towards the finale. All the main characters are now set up for what’s coming, and the conflict is at its peak as the city rises up against the AVTF and Mayor Kingpin’s control.
Why Wilson Fisk Killed Vanessa’s Doctor?
Early in the sixth episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, a doctor tries to express sympathy to Wilson Fisk, but Fisk violently murders him. This act is a major setback for the Mayor, suggesting his time in office is in jeopardy. He’s making no attempt to hide his violent nature, and it’s pushing him further into darkness.
Ultimately, Fisk’s self-control stemmed from his love for Vanessa. Throughout seasons 1 and 2 of Born Again, he desperately tried to be someone she could love, and that desire kept him in check. Now that she’s no longer in the picture, he has no restraints.
Now that Vanessa is gone, Wilson Fisk is fully embracing his role as the Kingpin, and all the ruthless violence that comes with it. This is immediately clear in an early scene, and it promises a major conflict that will affect many more people than just Matt Murdock and his fellow vigilantes.
What’s Happening With Jessica Jones In The MCU?
Throughout the season, fans have been anticipating Jessica Jones’s appearance, and she finally arrives in episode 6. Her first scene in the Marvel Cinematic Universe involves a confrontation with undercover AVTF agents, all while she’s trying to shield her daughter from the ensuing chaos and protect her family.
The discovery that Jessica Jones has a daughter is a big surprise, and it leaves fans wondering who the father is and how this will affect her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But even more immediately concerning is when Jessica admits her superpowers are starting to fade.
We see this happen when Jessica fights Agent Powell. For a brief moment, her powers seem to fail, and Powell manages to land a punch that makes Jessica bleed. This is worrying, as Powell has no special abilities, and Jessica is normally very hard to hurt.
As a huge fan, I’m really intrigued – and a little worried – about Jessica’s powers glitching. It’s got me thinking: is she seriously ill? Or is something bigger going on that’s affecting all the superpowered people, maybe something connected to the larger Marvel universe? Honestly, we don’t have any answers yet, but I have a feeling this isn’t just a random thing – it’s going to be a major story element later on.
Karen Page & Matt Murdock Are On Very Different Pages
After a relatively peaceful time hiding together, Matt and Karen’s relationship in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is starting to show strain. Their differing views on what’s right and wrong are creating distance between them.
I’m really seeing a big divide between Matt and Karen lately. Matt’s so firm about never killing anyone, even guys like Bullseye or Fisk, but Karen’s getting frustrated with that stance. It’s causing a lot of tension – she thinks some people just deserve to be put down, and Matt’s desperately trying to avoid taking a life, no matter what. It’s a tough situation to watch them both struggle with it.
Watching Daredevil face off against Wilson Fisk, I keep wondering if he’ll finally have to make that tough decision. But honestly, the tension between Matt and Karen is really bothering me – it feels like that’s going to become a much bigger problem as the story unfolds.
What Will Happen Between Daredevil And Kingpin?
Matt Murdock visits Wilson Fisk and begins by expressing his sympathy for the loss of Fisk’s wife. This brief moment reveals a shared human connection between the two men, despite their reputations as powerful and destructive forces, but the compassion doesn’t last.
Matt proposes that he and Fisk both leave New York – a city they both care about – to save it from the harm their fighting causes. For a brief moment, Fisk seems to consider the idea, but Matt goes too far by mentioning the people who have died because of their conflict, including Matt’s friend Foggy Nelson and Fisk’s wife, Vanessa.
Fisk’s reaction sends him into a furious rage, and though Daredevil first attempts to de-escalate the situation, he realizes Fisk is determined to fight until someone stops him. The ensuing battle is fraught with tension, and fueled by Fisk’s anger, Daredevil gains the advantage. For a moment, he even contemplates following Karen’s suggestion and ending Fisk’s life.
He definitely won’t do that. Not only is Vincent D’Onofrio returning for season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again, but Matt wouldn’t compromise his principles. This leaves us wondering what will happen next.
Powell Starts A Riot And Karen Is In Trouble
As the city starts to feel the impact of Fisk and the AVTF’s actions, a large protest forms. The AVTF gets ready to confront the protesters, but the crowd unexpectedly wears masks, showing their support for the vigilantes Fisk has been battling all season.
Karen blends into the crowd, using a wig to stay hidden. Meanwhile, Powell discovers which agent from their team betrayed them, giving Daredevil the keycard to free the prisoners in Red Hook. Powell immediately kills the traitor and then falsely accuses the crowd of the murder, causing the AVTF to violently retaliate against everyone present.
Amidst the chaos, Karen’s wig comes off, and she’s discovered by Powell, who immediately threatens her with a gun before the scene abruptly ends. The stark contrast between Daredevil holding Fisk’s life in his hands, ready to show compassion, and Karen potentially being harmed by the violent Powell, is incredibly effective. It leaves viewers on the edge of their seats, eager to see what happens next in the second-to-last episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2.
