Eleven years after its initial release, a truly exceptional cyberpunk TV show continues to demonstrate its lasting appeal. Originally airing on USA Network and later moving to streaming, the series cleverly subverts expectations. While many cyberpunk shows, like Altered Carbon, Love, Death & Robots, and the upcoming Neuromancer adaptation, are purely focused on the genre, this show begins as a technology-driven thriller and gradually delves deeper into cyberpunk themes with each season. Remarkably, every season is an improvement on the last, and the show maintains consistently high quality. It’s no surprise it remains so popular.
The acclaimed series Mr. Robot, starring Rami Malek, Carly Chaikin, Christian Slater, and Portia Doubleday, remains popular with viewers in 2026. You can watch it on MGM+ as usual, and now you can also buy episodes digitally through stores like the Apple Store, where it’s currently experiencing a comeback. This week, Mr. Robot is the eighth most popular series on the Apple Store charts – a list that changes frequently. The top three shows right now are Weeds, Landman, and Euphoria, while another great sci-fi show, The Expanse, is also in the top ten, at number nine.
Created by Sam Esmail, the mind behind Homecoming, Mr. Robot centers on Elliot (Rami Malek), a brilliant but troubled computer engineer who secretly works as a hacker. Although the idea of a lone hacker might seem like something from an ’80s movie like WarGames, Mr. Robot is praised for its accurate portrayal of hacking. Elliot’s solo efforts soon evolve as he connects with others who share his goal of dismantling a powerful, dishonest company.
‘Mr. Robot’ Is One of the Greatest Cyberpunk TV Shows Ever Made
Look, the idea behind Mr. Robot was already pretty cool, but it’s how the show actually plays out that makes it special. Rami Malek? Forget about it – his performance as Elliot was truly a star-making turn, and it’s no surprise he blew up after this. Beyond that, the direction was stunning, the way it looked was phenomenal, and the music just nailed the mood. Honestly, even when characters were deep in tech talk – stuff most of us wouldn’t get – I was completely hooked. The show is just so unpredictable; you’re constantly on edge, never quite sure where things are headed or who’s going to come out on top.
It’s not surprising that Mr. Robot received widespread critical and audience acclaim. The show boasts an 8.5 rating on IMDb and is ranked among the top 205 TV shows of all time on the site. Rotten Tomatoes shows equally strong approval, with critics and audiences both giving it scores in the low 90s. In fact, every season of the show has been rated 90% or higher by critics.
‘Mr. Robot’ Could Have Run for Five Seasons

The acclaimed series Mr. Robot concluded in 2019 after four strong seasons, delivering a satisfying finale that many felt Game of Thrones didn’t achieve. While some viewers wished for more, creator Sam Esmail has shared that the show always had a planned ending. Esmail told The Hollywood Reporter that when he initially outlined the series, it could have potentially lasted five seasons, but he wasn’t certain about the exact length. He consistently believed the show would run for either four or five seasons.
