A recent rumor indicates Marvel might revive a significant villain first seen in Doctor Strange. This character initially worked alongside the hero but became an enemy at the end of the first movie because of disagreements. The ending hinted at a darker future for them, but the sequel, Multiverse of Madness, didn’t continue that storyline. Instead, it focused on a different villain: Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, who served as the main antagonist.
Baron Mordo’s return after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness rumored
A recent rumor suggests that Baron Mordo, as he appears in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline (Earth-616), will be coming back in a future project.
In a recent fan Q&A, Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus revealed that Baron Mordo will “definitely” return in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. However, it’s unclear if Nightmare, another villain from Doctor Strange, will appear in a potential third Doctor Strange movie.
Baron Mordo was first introduced in the 2016 film Doctor Strange. He began as a teacher and ally to Doctor Strange, training him in magical combat and offering guidance. However, Mordo grew frustrated with the Ancient One and Strange’s willingness to break natural laws, even when it was for a good cause. Ultimately, he rejected their methods and set out to eliminate all sorcerers from the world.
A version of Mordo from another universe (Earth-838) appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As part of a group called the Illuminati – which also included Professor X, Mister Fantastic, Black Bolt, Captain Marvel, and Captain Carter – he questioned Doctor Strange (from Earth-616) about his arrival with America Chavez, as they were fleeing the Scarlet Witch. Mordo feared this Strange was as dangerous as their own version, who had used a dangerous book called the Darkhold to defeat Thanos, but ended up destroying their universe. He fought Strange, but was ultimately defeated after the Scarlet Witch killed the rest of the Illuminati.
While Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed when or where Mordo will reappear, Chiwetel Ejiofor, the actor who plays him, has said he’d be happy to return. He recently shared on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast that he still finds the Marvel Cinematic Universe very exciting.
He believes there’s a great opportunity to share compelling stories, specifically focusing on the most exciting parts to really make them stand out. He thinks this approach could be truly special.
