Netflix’s To All the Boys franchise has reached a low with its audience.
Netflix turned Jenny Han’s popular novels into three movies about Lara Jean Covey (played by Lana Condor), who had to deal with her old crushes when her private love letters were unexpectedly sent out. Because the movies did so well, a new series was created focusing on Lara Jean’s younger sister, Kitty (Anna Cathcart), and her journey to find love. The series, XO, Kitty, recently released its third season, and viewers have had a strong reaction to the new episodes.
The latest season of XO, Kitty has received the lowest audience approval rating of any installment in the To All the Boys franchise, earning just 35% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is even lower than the second movie, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, which scored 45%. While the audience score was the lowest, critics gave the season a relatively positive 75% rating, keeping it ‘fresh’.
| Every To All The Boys Movies & Series | Rotten Tomatoes Critics’ Score | Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score |

| To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018) | 96% | 84% |
| To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You (2020) | 78% | 41% |
| To All the Boys: Always and Forever (2021) | 79% | 57% |
| XO, Kitty Season 1 (2023) | 82% | 60% |

Many viewers felt let down by the latest season of Kitty’s story on KISS. A common complaint was that the show fell back on clichés when portraying the romantic relationship, especially compared to its earlier progress. More significantly, viewers felt Kitty’s character lost her strong, independent personality after getting together with Min-ho. Previously, the show had highlighted her growth, but now her choices seemed to depend too much on him, which felt unnatural and out of character.
A ScreenRant review of XO, Kitty season 3 suggests the show strayed from what made it good, with reviewer Cher Thompson noting it “lost its identity” as it tried to stand on its own. The storylines for Kitty and her classmates at KISS felt disconnected. However, the season was still enjoyable, largely thanks to strong scenes featuring the entire cast, and it received a rating of 6 out of 10 stars.
Even though viewers had a somewhat negative reaction to season 3 of XO, Kitty, it’s currently a hit on Netflix. Since its release on April 2nd, it’s been the most-watched show in the U.S., beating out popular series like Love on the Spectrum, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, and Bloodhounds season 2.
It’s currently uncertain if Netflix will make another season of XO, Kitty. While how many people watch will be a key factor, the show reached a natural stopping point with Kitty entering her final year at KISS. Many believe season 3 might be the last, but Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet.
Though the ending of XO, Kitty season 3 left the possibility of more episodes, creator Han hasn’t said anything about whether the show will continue. She’s currently working on adapting The Summer I Turned Pretty, which ran for three seasons on Prime Video, into a movie. While she’s confirmed the movie is happening and in development, recent news suggests it’s facing delays due to disagreements over payment.
If season 3 of XO, Kitty is the end of Anna Covey’s story, it’s uncertain whether Netflix will create any more spin-offs to continue the series. We’ll likely have to wait a while to find out what Netflix decides about the future of the franchise.
All three seasons of XO, Kitty are now streaming on Netflix.
