Titus Welliver, a regular on the show Dark Winds, has discussed the possibility of Dominic McNair returning in season five.
This psychological thriller series is adapted from Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn & Chee novels by Graham Roland. Set in the 1970s American Southwest, the show centers around three Navajo Tribal police officers and features a largely Native American cast. George R.R. Martin and Robert Redford are among its executive producers.
Titus Welliver starred as detective Harry Bosch for nine seasons across the shows Bosch and Bosch: Legacy. He then joined Dark Winds as McNair, a criminal mastermind in its fourth season. McNair leads a criminal operation dealing in drugs and stolen items, which puts him at odds with law enforcement and ultimately leads to him being accused of murder.
During a conversation with ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns, Rockmond Dunbar shared fond memories of his time on the show and expressed his enthusiasm for it. He also mentioned he’d be willing to reprise his role in a potential fifth season, adding that it would be enjoyable to bring his character, McNair, back and provide fans with a satisfying conclusion to his storyline.
ScreenRant asked if there’s been any discussion about bringing the character McNair back for another season, given the way his storyline ended – with him disputing the murder charge and seemingly wanting revenge on Leaphorn. It feels like a natural setup for a return in season five.
I was really eager to return to the show. At the premiere, after everyone saw the first episode, I immediately told John that I wanted to come back. I’d actually said something similar after filming my last scenes – I told him it felt like my character’s story wasn’t finished, and all he had to do was call if they ever wanted me back.
We’ll have to wait and see what happens. I’m really glad they’re back up and running so quickly. It would be very exciting and interesting for viewers to see what happens if McNair were to leave. So, let’s just wait and see. I want to be upfront about everything, so I’m not trying to be difficult or hide anything.
Right now, there aren’t any plans, but I’d definitely be up for it and would do it again immediately.
Kiowa Gordon, who plays Welliver, has expressed strong interest in returning to Dark Winds for a fifth season. He was excited to hear the show was renewed and said he’d eagerly reprise his role if given the chance, particularly given his character’s storyline leaves things open for a return.
While there haven’t been official discussions about bringing Zane McNair back for season five of Dark Winds, the story leaves the possibility open. McNair is fighting his murder charge, and Irene and Grayson are secretly working to influence his trial, which could easily bring his character back in the next season.
Landing an actor with Welliver’s experience is a real win for Dark Winds, and his character, McNair, was a compelling and complex addition to season four. Bringing McNair back next season would create exciting conflict, as he’d likely seek revenge against Leaphorn, potentially putting them both in danger.
