Great stories and beautiful animation are key, but memorable characters are what truly make a series successful. Characters create a connection with the audience, making them care about the plot and what happens next. Throughout anime history, characters like Luffy from One Piece have become incredibly popular, even beyond the world of anime itself.
I’ve been watching anime for the last ten years, and it’s been incredible! We’ve met so many characters who really stick with you – everything from the typical brave heroes you’d expect to surprisingly charming tricksters. It’s easy to see why these characters have become so popular with fans.
Zero Two from Darling in the Franxx Is More Popular Than Her Series
Even though it first came out seven years ago, Darling in the Franxx still sparks a lot of debate among fans. While many were unhappy with how the series ended, and it’s become less popular over time, it’s a great illustration of a mecha anime. Plus, the main character, Zero Two, remains incredibly popular.
Zero Two’s unique and memorable design, combined with her charming yet secretly troubled personality, made her a fan favorite and an instant icon in the anime world. During the show’s peak, many people started watching solely because of her character.
Sung Jinwoo from Solo Leveling Is a Straightforwardly Cool Hero
The anime Solo Leveling quickly became a huge hit in the 2020s, captivating fans with its exciting action and fantasy setting. While the series features many characters and a detailed world, it largely focuses on a single protagonist, Sung Jinwoo, who is a major reason for its incredible popularity.
Okay, so I’m totally hooked on this series! It’s about Jinwoo, a hunter who starts out pretty weak, but then gets this incredible system that lets him become unbelievably powerful – seriously, he blows past everyone! He might not be the deepest character ever, but honestly, he’s just so fun to watch. And the fights? Forget about it! Every time he unleashes his Shadow Army, it’s an absolute blast – pure, exhilarating action. You just can’t look away!
Katsuki Bakugo Is the Most Popular My Hero Academia Character
Even though Deku is the main character in My Hero Academia, Bakugo is consistently more popular with fans. This might seem surprising, considering Bakugo’s explosive personality and quick temper match his powerful abilities. He’s also often arrogant and acts without thinking, which isn’t typical for a hero figure.
Bakugo is funny because he gets so angry and is so different, but fans truly love him for who he is underneath that rough exterior. Throughout the series, we see he’s actually a kind and devoted person who struggles with his goals and self-doubt.
Violet Evergarden Sees the Full Spectrum of Human Emotions
Violet Evergarden, a young woman who grew up as a soldier and only knew war, is left injured and struggling to adapt when the fighting stops. She becomes an Auto Memory Doll, essentially a professional letter writer, helping others express their emotions. Through this work, Violet begins a journey to understand the meaning of “I love you,” which were the last words spoken to her by the commander she deeply respected.
While many episodes of Violet Evergarden focus on the stories of others, this approach is key to what makes Violet such a captivating character. We see Violet develop gradually as she deeply understands her clients’ feelings and turns them into written words, becoming more human with each interaction.
Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer Is a Likeable Shonen Protagonist
Though it’s generally more intense than most action-adventure anime, Demon Slayer still shares a key trait with many classic stories in the genre: a genuinely good and compassionate hero. Tanjiro Kamado becomes a demon slayer with one goal – to restore his sister, who has been turned into a demon, back into a human. Throughout his incredibly difficult journey, he consistently demonstrates unwavering determination and courage.
Tanjiro earns his victories through dedication, making his achievements truly satisfying to watch. Despite experiencing terrible hardships, he remains kind and considerate, always treating others fairly and staying true to his beliefs, even when facing immense difficulty.
Frieren’s Journey Is Touchingly Relatable Despite Her Unique Circumstances
The main character of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is unique, much like the story itself. Frieren, a skilled elven mage, initially viewed her decade-long adventure with her team to defeat the Demon King as a short blip in her long life. She didn’t fully appreciate how important her companions were until after it was over.
Frieren often seems calm and detached, but she’s actually a complex and endearing character with plenty of quirks and room to develop. Even though she perceives the world in a unique way, she’s surprisingly easy to connect with, and that’s just one example of the show’s excellent character development.
Anya Forger from Spy X Family Is Adorable and Entertaining
Spy x Family is a consistently funny and captivating show about a spy, an assassin, and a telepath who create a fake family while secretly keeping their true identities from each other. The show is great at building interesting and endearing characters, but the spotlight always seems to shift to the Forger family’s charming daughter, Anya, whenever she appears.
I’m totally captivated by Anya in Spy x Family! She’s such a unique character – a sweet, innocent kid with this incredible, almost overwhelming psychic power. It’s amazing watching her read everyone’s minds, and it always throws everything into hilarious chaos. Honestly, her pure heart and how badly she wants her found family to succeed just makes you root for her every single time!
Thorfinn from Vinland Saga Has Rich Character Development
Many viewers first started watching Vinland Saga because of its detailed historical world and intense, realistic fight scenes. However, the show’s incredible character development – particularly with the main character, Thorfinn – is what truly captivated them. Thorfinn begins as a boy enjoying a peaceful life in Iceland, the son of a famous former Viking. But after witnessing his father’s murder, he becomes consumed by a desire for revenge.
Thorfinn’s obsession with killing Askeladd causes immense suffering and leaves a trail of innocent deaths. But rather than a simple revenge story, Vinland Saga forces Thorfinn to face the harsh consequences of his violent life as a mercenary. This makes him a deeply compelling and complex character, and one of the most interesting leads in recent anime.
Reigen from Mob Psycho 100 Has Charisma That Knows No Bounds
r
Reigen Arataka, from the anime Mob Psycho 100, is full of contradictions. He’s a con artist who pretends to have psychic abilities, cleverly tricking his clients and even Mob himself. Despite being manipulative, Reigen becomes an incredibly valuable mentor to Mob, and his perspective on true strength and growing up captures the heart of the series.
Reigen is incredibly charming and manages to stand out, even when he’s with much stronger characters, always leaving a memorable impact. While his behavior is often questionable and quirky, he’s also a surprisingly down-to-earth and relatable person, realistically flawed and genuinely sincere. He’s a vital part of the show and it wouldn’t be the same without him.
Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen Is More Than the Strongest Sorcerer
Satoru Gojo quickly became incredibly popular after debuting in Jujutsu Kaisen, captivating fans with his unique look, relaxed attitude, and incredible power. His likable and laid-back personality makes him fun to watch, and his immense strength guarantees that any fight he’s in will be exciting.
Despite his seemingly carefree personality, Gojo is a surprisingly complex character. His painful history with Suguru Geto and his strong desire to guide the next generation of sorcerers give him real depth. This well-developed characterization is why many consider him the most iconic anime hero in recent years.
