Relic Hunter Ran for Three Seasons
Gil Grant created the television series Relic Hunter, which originally aired in Canada in 1999. The show ran for three seasons and a total of 66 episodes, concluding in 2002. Tia Carrere starred as the main character, and the cast also featured Christien Anholt (known for Malory Towers), Lindy Booth (The Librarians), Tanja Reichart (Wicked Wicked Games), Tony Rosato (Saturday Night Live), Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Louis Mandylor (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), and Crispin Bonham-Carter (Pride and Prejudice).
The show features Carrere as Sydney Fox, a college professor specializing in ancient objects. She travels the globe searching for lost treasures, frequently competing with criminals who want them for selfish purposes. Sydney is usually accompanied by her assistant, Nigel, who provides help and adds humor. Each episode is a standalone adventure where Sydney and Nigel overcome obstacles and solve mysteries as they uncover the story behind each artifact.
Tia Carrere Did Her Own Stunts
Carrere fully committed to the show, even performing many of her own stunts during the martial arts scenes. This made the series enjoyable to watch when it originally aired. However, it wasn’t continued after its initial contract for 66 episodes ended. Despite this, the show developed a dedicated fan base who still remember and appreciate its three seasons.
I remember when Tia Carrere really broke out with her role in Relic Hunter – it felt like a huge deal for her at the time. But she didn’t stop there! She’s done incredible voice work in cartoons like Duck Dodgers and Lilo & Stitch: The Series. More recently, I’ve spotted her guest-starring in shows I watch, like Blue Bloods, Doll Face, and NCIS: Los Angeles. She was also fantastic in AJ and the Queen on Netflix. On the movie side, she was just in Disney’s live-action remake, and I’m really excited to see her in the upcoming rom-com The Last Resort – it’s got Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich, so it’s bound to be good!
