A preview of Marvel’s Ultimate Universe: Two Years In #1 (from creators Deniz Camp, Alex Paknadel, and others) shows the future Guardians of the Galaxy unable to prevent a disaster in their timeline. The team first appeared in The Ultimates #8, created by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri. Though the group includes familiar faces like Captain Marvel, Cosmo Starstalker, the Ultimate Nullifier, and Star-Lord, these versions of the characters are quite different from the ones most fans recognize.

These Guardians of the Galaxy aren’t from our time – they’re from the distant future. They’re descendants of today’s heroes, but they come from the 61st century. They witnessed their own time fall apart because of the Maker’s actions on Earth-6160. Determined to stop him, they tried to prevent his plans, but unfortunately, they failed.

Issue #1 of Ultimate Universe: Two Years In arrives shortly before the planned end of the entire Ultimate comic book series. It was announced at New York Comic Con in October that the Ultimate line will conclude in April 2026. The writer of The Ultimates admitted it’s a difficult topic to discuss, expressing emotional attachment to the series.

This feels like the natural result of everything Jonathan started, bringing together ideas from my book and many others. It’s going to be a landmark achievement – huge and deeply moving, with some heartbreaking moments. Honestly, it’s going to be an incredible experience.
