The world of animation boasts many memorable characters, from adorable to strange and even scary. This year, a famous anime studio has launched a new T-shirt collection celebrating beloved figures like Ponyo, Sophie Hatter, and Jiji the cat, featuring designs that are both original and fashionable.
Donguri Sora, known for its GBL clothing line, creates clothes with a colorful, vintage-inspired “American casual” style. They’ve just started taking pre-orders for 12 new shirts featuring popular characters from Studio Ghibli films like My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and more. You can see the entire collection below.
Ghibli’s New T-Shirt Line Honors Howl’s Moving Castle, Totoro & Spirited Away

Two of the twelve designs are inspired by the film . One features a charming black cat plush, playfully referencing a scene where Kiki’s cat, Jiji, pretends to be a delivery. The other showcases an illustration of the witch Kiki meets shortly after leaving home. The collar of this design bears the phrase, “Are you a newcomer?”, a line spoken to Kiki during their conversation.
This piece from the collection honors Moro, the powerful wolf god. The front features intricate designs, and the central image depicts the moment when a furious Moro scolds Ashitaka for speaking to him without permission. The intensity of that anger is captured by the words, “Silence, Boy!”
The design also celebrates a funny scene from Howl’s Moving Castle (2004). In the movie, Howl gets very upset when his hair is dyed the wrong color. He becomes so gloomy that he literally starts to melt! Sophie and Markl try to help by pushing his chair around. The T-shirt shows Sophie, as an old woman, and Markl working together to move Howl’s chair.
Compared to other Studio Ghibli films, Pom Poko (1994) and Porco Rosso (1992) aren’t as well-known in the United States. Pom Poko is a funny movie based on Japanese folklore, about a group of raccoon dogs trying to save their forest from being destroyed by humans. The tanuki, or raccoon dogs, have the magical ability to change shape, and one scene shows a tanuki cleverly disguising itself among a collection of lucky cat figurines.
I’m absolutely captivated by this story! It follows Porco, a former ace pilot who, through a strange curse, now has the face of a pig. He’s left Italy and is making a living as a bounty hunter around the beautiful Adriatic Sea. A lot of his work involves dealing with the hilariously over-the-top ‘Mamma Aiuto’ pirates – they’re always coming up with crazy plans to get rich! There’s one scene that always gets me – the pirates kidnap some young girls from a cruise ship, and then Porco flies them home in his seaplane, and they’re all laughing and having a blast on top of the plane! It’s just a wonderfully charming moment.
T-shirts from Ghibli’s 2026 “BASIC” line cost 6,930 yen (about $43.67). They’re expected to ship to customers around mid-May. While the Donguri Sora store doesn’t ship internationally, you can find their products at retailers like Meccha Japan and Sugoi Mart. In the U.S., official Ghibli merchandise is also available at stores like Hot Topic, BoxLunch, Barnes & Noble, and Kinokuniya Books USA.
