New World War Z Movie Officially Confirmed After David Fincher Sequel Cancellation

After previously canceling their plans for a follow-up, Paramount is returning to World War Z.

During their CinemaCon 2026 presentation, where ScreenRant was present, Paramount announced they are developing a new World War Z movie. This comes almost ten years after plans for a sequel with director David Fincher were scrapped in 2019 for various reasons. Currently, no details have been revealed about the new film.

As a big fan of “World War Z”, I’m excited to hear Brad Pitt is likely to be involved in the sequel! He was fantastic in the first one, and his production company, Plan B, helped make it happen. Right now, though, it’s still unclear if he’ll be back on screen as Gerry Lane, or if he’ll just be working behind the scenes as a producer. I’m hoping for both, honestly!

The 2013 film World War Z stars Gerry Lane, who races around the world to find the origin of a rapidly spreading zombie outbreak that threatens all of humanity. His travels take him from Philadelphia to countries like South Korea and Israel, as the crisis overwhelms governments and escalates into a global disaster. The movie was a huge financial success, bringing in over $540 million worldwide on a budget of around $190 million. It’s still Brad Pitt’s most commercially successful leading role and remains one of Paramount Pictures’ biggest hits of the 2010s.
