Dragon Ball’s Toei Enters PC Gaming With New Steam Label

The parent company behind ‘s Toei Animation is officially entering the world of video games.

Toei Co., Ltd., known for its film and television work, is celebrating its 75th anniversary by launching a new video game publishing division called Toei Games. This marks the company’s expansion into the gaming industry, building on its existing media ventures, according to Oricon.

Toei Games plans to start releasing games on PC, primarily through Steam, and then move to consoles like PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Interestingly, instead of publishing games based on popular franchises like One Piece or Sailor Moon, Toei Games will focus on creating and releasing completely new, original titles.

Toei Company’s president, Fumio Yoshimura, explained that games are a universally popular form of entertainment, reaching audiences worldwide. He stated that the company’s long-term goal, ‘TOEI NEW WAVE 2033,’ is to share Toei’s stories globally, and expanding into the game business is a key part of achieving that.

Yoshimura explained that they’re applying their video production skills and expertise to this new game venture, aiming to bring Toei’s distinctive entertainment to players globally. He encouraged everyone to anticipate this exciting new direction for Toei.

Kairosoft, a game developer known for its pixel art style, has partnered with Toei, a major entertainment company, to recreate the iconic opening sequence from Toei films – “Waves on the Rough Shore” – in pixel animation. They also developed a pixelated version of the Toei Games logo. Kairosoft’s CEO, Kairo-kun, jokingly said he knew the project would be challenging from the start, admitting he dreamed he’d be losing sleep over it.

Kairo said he’d been thinking about a logo for the game industry while relaxing on his futon. He was fast asleep, and the perfect design came to him with the fresh feeling of springtime, marking a new beginning.
