I was so bummed to hear that Avatar: The Last Airbender somehow leaked online! It’s crazy, considering the movie isn’t even out for months, and it’s supposed to be a Paramount+ exclusive. I heard they’re already looking into how it happened, which is good, but I’m still worried about what this means for the release.
The Hollywood Reporter says Paramount is looking into how the movie Avatar: The Last Airbender ended up online, especially as the studio is getting criticism for not releasing it in cinemas. So far, Paramount doesn’t believe the leak was caused by a security issue with their computers.
The upcoming film Avatar: The Last Airbender (formerly known as The Legend of Aang) has faced a lot of issues and delays. Originally slated for an October 2025 release in theaters, Paramount pushed the date back twice, first to early 2026, and then to October 2026. Unexpectedly, the studio then decided to skip a theatrical release altogether and release the film directly on their streaming service, Paramount+.
Despite a recent change of plans, director Lauren Montgomery confirmed the movie is still scheduled for release this October. Filming and editing were completed in early March, and Montgomery previously stated that Aang deserves a theatrical release, emphasizing that Paramount’s decision wasn’t due to any issues with the film’s quality.
Paramount has faced more problems with Avatar: The Last Airbender beyond the initial negative reaction. Someone recently began sharing clips from the movie on X (formerly Twitter) featuring characters played by Dave Bautista and Taika Waititi, claiming they received a full copy via email. X has since removed those clips and replaced them with notices stating they were taken down due to copyright claims.
