The network has significantly revamped its fall lineup. Popular shows, and , will not be returning for the 2026-27 season, as announced Wednesday.
Both shows have been delayed until Spring 2027, marking the first time they won’t premiere in the fall. However, fans of Ghosts still have something to look forward to this year: a full 22-episode season, including special one-hour Halloween and Christmas episodes, will air before the rest of season six.
The number of episodes for Season 3 of Matlock hasn’t been announced yet. Season 1 had 19 episodes, and Season 2 had a few less, with 16 episodes in total.
Many Thought Ghosts Would Be Paired With New Sitcom Eternally Yours
It’s surprising that the show Ghosts isn’t airing this fall, especially since many people thought it would be paired with the new comedy Eternally Yours. Both shows share the same creators. However, Eternally Yours will now air after the third season of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage on Thursdays.
Amy Reisenbach, head of CBS Entertainment, clarified why they scheduled Eternally Yours alongside Georgie & Mandy rather than Ghosts. She noted that Young Sheldon‘s sequel spinoff continues to be the most-watched comedy on network television.
As a huge fan of good television, I was really excited to hear about Georgie & Mandy. From what I understand, it’s a show centered around family dynamics, and the network seems incredibly confident about pairing it with another new show for maximum impact. They’re hoping this combination will give both programs a fantastic start.
The series Eternally Yours follows Charles and Liz, a vampire couple whose 500-year relationship has lost its spark. Now living in Seattle with a quirky group of vampire friends, they’re stuck in a boring routine. But things get interesting when their daughter’s well-meaning human boyfriend shows up, making them question if their love can truly last forever – or if eternity feels more like a prison.
What Does the Rest of CBS’ Fall Schedule Look Like?
Okay, so CBS is really betting small on comedy this fall. It seems they’re at a low point, and only two half-hour comedies, Eternally Yours and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, are making the cut. They’re launching Thursday nights, followed by Elsbeth at 9. And rounding out the evening will be a brand new drama, Cupertino, with Mike Colter taking the lead at 10. It’s a pretty lean lineup, honestly.
CBS’s fall schedule heavily relies on its established shows. On Mondays, you’ll find the FBI and CIA series alongside Harlan Coben’s Final Twist. Tuesdays are dedicated to NCIS, with the original series at 8 PM, a new NCIS show at 9 PM, and the prequel NCIS: Origins at 10 PM. Later in the season, NCIS: Sydney will replace NCIS: Origins, as the prequel will have fewer episodes next season.
On Wednesdays, you can watch the reality shows Survivor and The Amazing Race. Fridays will start with Sheriff Country, followed by Fire Country, and conclude with Boston Blue.
Every Sunday night, viewers can enjoy a strong lineup of shows: 60 Minutes at 7PM, followed by a new program at 8PM, and Tracker at 9PM. According to Reisenbach, the combination is a winning one and they don’t plan to change it.
Premiere dates for CBS’ fall programs will be announced closer to September.
