The CBS series starring Kathy Bates is undergoing a major change, but it’s not related to the show’s storyline about Madeline “Matty” Matlock and her pursuit of revenge against Jacobson Moore. The legal drama is changing its cast after firing David Del Rio following sexual assault allegations made by his co-star, Leah Lewis, and will be replacing him with Billy Martinez.
Billy was a key part of Matlock’s original team alongside Madeline and Sarah, and he was expected to have a big role in Season 2. The storyline involving his character’s upcoming baby with his girlfriend was unfortunately dropped, and as of Episode 10, the actor has been replaced. In the episode “The Greater Good,” Matty and Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) welcome a new member to the team.
Matlock’s Billy Martinez Replacement Explained
The team has a new member, Hunter (played by Henry Haber), who originally came from the temporary staff pool and now works for Olympia. He’s a pretty laid-back guy – you’ll see him eating pizza and shooting hoops around the office – but he quickly shows he can definitely handle working with the team’s best players.
In Episode 10 of Matlock, the team dynamics change significantly with Hunter joining and Sarah becoming a member. This also means Olympia’s group loses Billy. The episode reveals that Billy left after accepting a severance package from Jacobson Moore, who are looking to reduce staff numbers before a potential merger.
In the previous episode of Matlock, it was hinted that staff reductions were coming as part of the merger, with Gwen Easton planning to downsize the team. Now, with only one junior associate position available besides Madeline Matlock’s, a new person has been hired.
In “The Greater Good,” Henry often appears distant, but he consistently demonstrates an ability to handle the investigative work of both Billy and Sarah, expertly managing the case details and staying one step ahead of Olympia. A surprising moment occurs when Henry, Madeline, and Olympia create a secret handshake, which makes Sarah feel left out and highlights their growing connection.
How Billy’s Exit Changes Matlock’s Revenge Plan
With Billy leaving and Matlock solidifying the change by fully replacing Martinez with Hunter, the focus will subtly shift towards plans for revenge. This new team member gives them fresh energy, but Madeline and Olympia now have even more to worry about.
Hunter might seem distant sometimes, but he really shines in Episode 10. He appears to ignore Madeline when she asks him to take notes, but it turns out he has dysgraphia, which makes writing difficult. Despite this, he remembers everything with remarkable clarity and easily keeps up with his coworkers.
Hunter often seems a bit distant, but he’s actually very aware of what’s going on in “For The Greater Good.” He starts to notice things about Madeline and Olympia’s secret investigation, creating a new problem for them. While they’ve successfully kept Sarah and Billy from finding out, staying one step ahead of Hunter might be harder.
Madeline and Olympia are starting to make progress after bringing Julian into the fold and utilizing his expertise and connections to focus on Senior, Jacobson Moore’s managing partner. However, as they head into Season 3 of Matlock, they need to be cautious about who they can truly rely on.
