Blending real effects with computer-generated imagery, Alien: Romulus demonstrates a smart approach for today’s big-budget films and introduces some fascinating new details to the creature’s life cycle. With impressive action sequences – the zero-gravity acid scene is a standout – and a heartfelt performance from David Jonsson as the android Andy, the film has a lot going for it.

1. Novocaine (2025)

Novocaine is a surprisingly charming action-comedy. Despite moments of intense violence, it’s also genuinely sweet and funny. Jack Quaid is incredibly likable as a man who feels no pain, and he’s forced to use this unusual ability to rescue his girlfriend, played by Amber Midthunder.

Despite some truly gruesome moments, the film Novocaine manages to avoid being overly shocking. It’s a fast-paced movie with a strong cast – Ray Nicholson is particularly memorable as the villain – and the special effects makeup is consistently impressive and startling.
