Kit Harington Calls Out ‘Game of Thrones’ Fans Over Season 8 Petition

Kit Harington, the actor who played Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, has said he was truly upset by the online petition created by fans who wanted Season 8 rewritten. The show concluded seven years ago with Bran Stark becoming king and Sansa Stark ruling the North. Jon Snow was exiled as punishment for killing Daenerys Targaryen. Many fans were unhappy with how the series ended and started a campaign for new writers to redo the final season.

During an interview with The New York Times, Harington stuck up for David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

I was really upset by that. Honestly, I was offended. I just think it was a particularly foolish thing to do, and it seemed like something that only happens because of social media.

Kit Harington has definitively ruled out returning for any future Game of Thrones spin-offs. He stated, “Absolutely not. I don’t want to revisit that world. I dedicated a decade to the show, and I’m happy moving on.”

‘Game of Thrones’ Star “Almost Wanted to Donate” to Infamous Remake Petition

HBO

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, the actor who plays Jaime Lannister, has said he once thought about donating to the petition regarding his character.

I completely missed all the drama surrounding season eight, honestly. I did hear about it, and I remember seeing the petition for a different ending – I thought it was really funny, and I almost contributed! The idea of HBO actually giving in and remaking it because of the petition was amusing. It seemed like everyone had a strong opinion, and I always find the passion of fans fascinating. Everyone just had a very specific idea of how the story should end, and it wasn’t what they got.

The ending was a mixed bag – some people had expectations for how the story would conclude, and those who were deeply invested in the show were disappointed when it finished. There’s still a huge fan base for Game of Thrones, and many worried that would disappear once the series ended. Ultimately, though, the story needed to come to a close.

When asked about the show’s finale, which drew 12 million viewers on its HBO premiere, the Danish actor explained that endings are always difficult. He acknowledged that people would likely be upset no matter what happened, and encouraged fans to avoid personal attacks. He felt the finale was well-done and questioned how such a complex story could be concluded satisfyingly. He suggested revisiting the discussion in ten years, allowing for more perspective, but felt it was too soon to fully evaluate the ending.

Meanwhile, Hodor’s Kristian Nairn once told Screen Rant that the fan reaction “disappointed” him.

It wasn’t a flawless ending, and I’m no professional writer – most people aren’t! So, I was pretty disappointed with how it turned out. Of course, I can’t take responsibility for it, seeing as my character was already gone. A lot of viewers felt Daenerys’s actions were sudden and didn’t fit her personality, but honestly, I saw it coming throughout the entire series. The clues were definitely there.
