Law And Order Toronto Will Return To The CW After The Season 1 Finale, But I Hope One Thing Changes For Season 2

Following the season finales of Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU on NBC, Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent will wrap up its first season on December 3rd. The show, starring Kathleen Munroe and Aden Young, follows a similar structure to other Law & Order series, but its Canadian setting sets it apart. Thankfully, Law & Order Toronto has already been renewed, and I’m hoping future seasons will be released in a different way.

Law & Order Toronto Season 2

Even before the first season ended, The CW had renewed Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent for two more seasons, with new episodes planned for the 2026 TV lineup. This announcement wasn’t unexpected, as the Law & Order brand is well-known to American viewers. The original Law & Order series is currently celebrating its 25th season, and SVU is in its 27th, demonstrating the franchise’s lasting popularity.

The show actually completed two seasons on Citytv in Canada before it even started airing in the US. Citytv also renewed it for a third season way back in 2024. So, while fans know there will be more episodes after the first season’s finale, that’s simply because The CW is now showing the first two seasons. The real question is what will happen with Season 3.

As a fan, I’m still holding out hope for Season 2 of Law & Order Toronto. The CW hasn’t announced a premiere date for the new year yet, so my biggest wish for the show is still alive and well! I’m cautiously optimistic, to say the least.

I Hope The CW Changes Law & Order Toronto’s Time Slot

This fall, the Canadian drama has been shown on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, a popular time for TV shows. It’s been competing for viewers with shows like Survivor on CBS, The Golden Bachelor on ABC, and, importantly, Chicago Med on NBC. While Law & Order Toronto isn’t as directly connected to the other Law & Order shows, airing at the same time as Chicago Med means fans haven’t been able to watch both shows live.

The series, set in Toronto, isn’t available on popular streaming services like Netflix or HBO Max, unlike many other shows from The CW. Even watching on The CW’s website or app isn’t as simple as using more common platforms. If you regularly watch Chicago Med (or anything else airing at 8 p.m. Eastern Time), it will be difficult to also keep up with Law & Order Toronto. The show might find a larger audience if it aired on a different night.

If moving Law & Order Toronto to Wednesday nights doesn’t work, could it air during the summer instead? Many shows like Law & Order, SVU, Chicago Med, and Survivor take breaks during the summer. A summer release for Law & Order Toronto would give fans who are busy in the fall another chance to watch.

Right now, we’ll just have to wait and see what The CW decides to do with Season 2. It’s possible my expectations won’t be met and Law & Order Toronto will return to primetime on Wednesdays next fall. Until then, I’m hoping the show might become available on a streaming service that’s easier to use than The CW app during its break.
