Dexter Morgan is going up against two vile, “nasty” new villains in Dexter: Resurrection season 2.
At a recent event for Dexter: Resurrection, Michael C. Hall, who plays Dexter Morgan, hinted at the roles of two new villains in season 2: The New York Ripper/Don Framt and The Five Borough Killer. Brian Cox will be playing The New York Ripper, a serial killer whose backstory was established in season 1 and is now being fully introduced.
The identity of The Five Borough Killer is still largely unknown, with Dan Stevens playing the role of this younger murderer. When the character was first announced for Dexter: Resurrection, Paramount explained he’s known for making threatening phone calls to the NYPD, and tragically, he’s now starting to act on those threats. Michael C. Hall has since added more details about the dynamic between this new, equally disturbing Five Borough Killer and the New York Ripper in season 2 of Resurrection.
Michael C. Hall describes the two serial killers he portrays as distinct from each other. One, ‘The New York Ripper,’ is a seasoned killer haunted by his past, while ‘The Five Borough Killer’ is a younger, developing killer. Hall notes that Dexter would likely consider the younger killer an ‘aspiring’ serial killer, not yet fully established. Essentially, both characters are dangerous, but they represent opposite stages in a killer’s evolution.
According to Hall’s analysis, the new villains in season 2, particularly The New York Ripper, remind him of Arthur Mitchell, also known as The Trinity Killer from the original Dexter series. Like The Trinity Killer – who evaded capture for three decades before Dexter encountered him – The New York Ripper has a long and hidden history of committing crimes while successfully avoiding the police.
In the latest season, Resurrection, Dexter faces a new kind of opponent with The Five Borough Killer. Unlike previous adversaries, this killer isn’t yet fully formed in Dexter’s eyes, but is rapidly escalating in danger as he starts to carry out his threats. This puts Dexter in a critical position – he has the chance to stop The Five Borough Killer before he becomes a truly notorious figure, similar to The New York Ripper.
Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection will likely feature more standalone cases with different killers, now that Dexter is established in New York City. However, only two new villains have been officially announced so far: The New York Ripper and The Five Borough Killer. The first season introduced a wide range of significant antagonists – including the Dark Passenger, Lady Vengeance, Tattoo Collector, Gemini Killer, and Rapunzel – and Dexter successfully eliminated all of them except for Rapunzel by the end of the season.
The second season of Resurrection hasn’t revealed much about its new characters who aren’t villains. Notable additions to the cast include Bokeem Woodbine, playing Captain Mixon, a homicide detective with the NYPD, and Nona Parker Johnson as his daughter, Fiona Mixon, who is training to become an officer.
The show will also feature several familiar faces from previous seasons and related series. Confirmed cast members returning include Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, James Remar as Harry Morgan, Uma Thurman as Charley Brown, Kadia Saraf as Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Melvin Oliva, and Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara.
While Paramount+ hasn’t announced a specific date, the second season of Dexter: Resurrection is expected to premiere around October 2026. The season will have 10 episodes, and those involved with the show are hoping it will continue beyond that.
