Where Frank Castle Will Appear Next After The Punisher: One Last Kill

Jon Bernthal returned as The Punisher in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again last year, and he’s now preparing for another appearance in a new special. Titled The Punisher: One Last Kill, the project promises to showcase Frank Castle’s signature brutality and offer fans a closer look at his complex character.

Frank is a popular character, but also a controversial one within the superhero world. He’s known for being overly violent and often walks a fine line between being a hero and a villain. He’s a classic anti-hero – he does bad things, believing they’re necessary for the greater good, which often makes his fellow heroes uneasy.

Honestly, I wasn’t shocked to hear The Punisher: One Last Kill got a mature rating. It just feels right – you can’t really tell Frank Castle’s story without being gritty and realistic, like they did with the two seasons on Netflix. But it’s not a new show, which is a little disappointing. They’re calling it a special presentation instead, which I guess is cool too – a one-off story focusing just on him.

This upcoming story will be a separate adventure for The Punisher, essentially filling the gap left by his missing season 2 appearance in Daredevil: Born Again. However, we already know where Frank Castle will show up next: Jon Bernthal is returning to the role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in just over two months.

As a huge MCU fan, I’m really excited about The Punisher finally getting a proper introduction to this universe! It’s wild to think this will be his first major movie appearance within the MCU, and honestly, it’s been almost twenty years since we’ve seen a live-action Punisher on the big screen. The trailers for Brand New Day definitely hint at a much grittier tone than the recent Spider-Man films, but even so, bringing Frank Castle into the mix still feels… unexpected, to say the least. It’s a bold move, and I’m curious to see how it all plays out.

It’s difficult to see how The Punisher will fit into the Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline, particularly since he doesn’t have any established history with Spider-Man on screen. However, this is the first project featuring Frank Castle after One Last Kill, so Punisher fans will definitely want to check it out.

What’s Next For Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher After Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Even though the title is The Punisher: One Last Kill, Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle likely isn’t finished with his brand of justice, thanks to his connection with Spider-Man. However, he doesn’t have any other projects lined up after this one. With Daredevil: Born Again already renewed for a third season, that’s expected to be his next role.

It was a bit odd not seeing The Punisher in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, considering his significant part in the first season and the return of other characters. However, knowing his own show was coming out so soon after Born Again finished helped explain why he wasn’t included.

The upcoming comic series, The Punisher: One Last Kill, is expected to link the events of his old Netflix series to the current Marvel Cinematic Universe storyline. It will likely show what happened after Frank Castle broke free from Kingpin in season one of Born Again. Following his re-establishment in Brand New Day, Frank Castle will probably continue his work as the Punisher in a New York City without Kingpin.

Before this, his only potential role seemed to be in Avengers: Doomsday, but it’s difficult to imagine how his character would fit into that film, particularly since the other heroes he usually works with aren’t involved either.

While a solo series for One Last Kill is possible, it’s unlikely to happen for several years, if at all. Currently, The Punisher’s future in the MCU after Spider-Man: Brand New Day is just guesswork, but a return for Daredevil seems much more probable.

Fans are already thrilled at the possibility of Frank Castle interacting with Spider-Man and even the Hulk in the upcoming movie. The idea of him teaming up with heroes from the old Netflix ‘Defenders’ shows is also exciting. Given how much the character is planned for in 2026, a major future for Frank Castle seems very likely.

Rather than a definitive conclusion to Frank Castle’s story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Punisher: One Last Kill feels more like a symbolic ending. As long as Jon Bernthal wants to continue playing the character, Marvel will likely find new opportunities for him, making his future with the franchise beyond 2027 something to watch.
