He consistently draws viewers, whether they watch in cinemas or online. With his upcoming film, Mutiny, scheduled for release in August, fans are currently enjoying his 2011 action film The Mechanic on Paramount+.
According to FlixPatrol, the movie The Mechanic quickly climbed the charts on a streaming service. It appeared in the U.S. Top 10 Movies just one day after being added at the beginning of the month, starting at number 5. It stayed there for two days before falling to number 10. At this rate, The Mechanic might no longer be on the chart tomorrow.
The Mechanic is a Remake of a ’70s Action Movie
The 2011 action thriller, The Mechanic, features Jason Statham as Arthur Bishop, a highly skilled assassin who expertly disguises his killings as accidents or the work of others. It’s a remake of a 1972 film starring Charles Bronson.
Although critics had mixed opinions, the movie The Mechanic was a financial success, earning over $76 million globally. Many viewers particularly enjoyed the performances of Jason Statham and Ben Foster, and the film’s exciting action scenes were also a highlight.
A follow-up movie, The Mechanic: Resurrection, came out in 2016. While critics didn’t like it as much as the first film, Resurrection earned significantly more money, bringing in over $125 million worldwide.
In The Mechanic: Resurrection, Jason Statham reprises his role as Bishop, a former hitman who believed he’d left that life behind. But when a powerful enemy kidnaps the woman he loves, he’s compelled to carry out three seemingly impossible assassinations, making them appear as accidents, all around the world.
Jason Statham Will Continue to Give Audiences More Action-Packed Movies
Jason Statham is a major action star of the 21st century. He’s known for popular films like the Transporter series, Crank, all four Expendables movies, and the Fast & Furious films, in addition to The Mechanic movies.
The actor’s newest film, Shelter, came out in January but didn’t quite hit the mark with audiences and critics. While it earned back slightly more than its $50 million production cost – finishing with $53 million at the box office – reviews were mixed. However, the film performed well on demand.
In the action thriller Shelter, Jason Statham plays a retired government assassin trying to live a quiet life. However, his past catches up to him when he must protect a young girl from the agency that wants him dead, forcing him back into a world of violence. The film also features Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Bill Nighy, Naomi Ackie, and Daniel Mays.
Lionsgate is probably hoping the disappointing box office results of Shelter don’t continue with Jason Statham’s next film, Mutiny. The movie follows Cole Reed (Statham), who is framed for the murder of his wealthy employer. He escapes on a cargo ship, only to uncover a larger international plot.
Even if Mutiny isn’t a huge success, it’s still a promising project. It’s a follow-up to Jason Statham’s unexpectedly popular 2024 film, which made $162 million on a $40 million budget and was well-received by both critics and audiences. Mutiny is scheduled for release in 2027.
The Mechanic is currently streaming on Paramount+.
