The team behind the upcoming Netflix live-action series, Scooby-Doo: Origins, has revealed the first photos of the actors playing the younger versions of the Mystery Inc. gang. However, Scooby-Doo himself is notably absent from the initial cast reveal.
A new cast photo from Scooby-Doo: Origins gives fans their first look at Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake and Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers.
Abby Ryder Fortson plays Velma Dinkley and Maxwell Jenkins plays Fred Jones. Interestingly, the only sign of Scooby-Doo – the Great Dane the show is named after – is a single paw print on the crate where the characters are hiding. See it for yourself below.
The reason Scooby-Doo wasn’t visible in the first photo from Scooby-Doo: Origins is because he’ll be created using computer-generated imagery (CGI). While the show is live-action, Scooby – known for his expressive face and big appetite – will be brought to life digitally, similar to how he appeared in the 2002 Scooby-Doo movie and its sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. They won’t be using a real dog.
Fans might be concerned this new series will take a slow route, similar to how “Surfboard Dracula” started – focusing on the characters meeting and getting established before actually solving any mysteries, and maybe not even featuring Scooby until late in the season. However, it’s too soon to say for sure, especially with only one picture released, so fans will have to wait and see how things develop.
