The K-pop world will be gracing Netflix again pretty soon.
Over the past few years, shows and movies in Korean, or inspired by Korean culture, have become increasingly popular on Netflix. The popularity of K-dramas especially rose sharply after the release of Squid Game in September 2021, and Netflix continued to invest heavily in Korean content in 2025.
The platform saw another surge in popularity last year with the release of KPop Demon Hunters, despite being primarily English-language content. The film, which delves into the world of KPop, became a huge success thanks to its hit song “Golden” and other tracks like “Soda Pop.” It even won two Academy Awards.
Netflix is adding a new K-pop movie called K-Pops!, according to What’s Coming on Netflix. It will be available starting May 30th. Other titles coming to Netflix around the same time include The Theory of Everything, Room to Move, and Rafa.
K-Pops! is a funny and heartwarming movie that gained attention at film festivals last year. It’s about a musician who travels to Seoul hoping to boost his career, and unexpectedly learns that one of the country’s popular K-pop artists is actually his son.
Anderson .Paak, the rapper and songwriter behind popular songs like “Leave the Door Open,” “Smokin’ Out the Window,” and “After Last Night,” plays the lead role in the film. He also co-wrote the script and directed the movie, marking his first time directing a feature-length film.
Anderson .Paak is joined by Soul Rasheed, his son with Jae Lin, who is new to acting. Soul Rasheed first appeared on screen in his father’s music video in 2020.
While K-Pops! didn’t have a wide release in theaters, people who’ve seen it seem to like it. Rotten Tomatoes shows 88% positive reviews from 40 critics, and early viewers give it an 87% score, indicating strong enjoyment.
The film has received positive reviews, with critics like Tomris Laffly of Variety and Odie Henderson from The Boston Globe praising its humor and heartwarming nature. Many viewers also enjoyed the performances of the father and son who play the lead roles.
With limited showings in theaters, the success of K-Pops will largely depend on how well it performs on Netflix. The platform has a strong track record of popularizing Korean and Korean-inspired shows and movies, and its late May release will be a key test to see if K-Pops becomes a hit or fades into obscurity.
