Street Fighter is a hugely popular and important series in the world of fighting games. Characters like Ryu and Ken are widely recognized, which is remarkable given that fighting games usually appeal to a smaller audience.
Capcom’s Street Fighter series has been a consistent hit since the 1990s. The original Street Fighter 2 is a classic arcade game that people still enjoy, and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike is often called one of the greatest fighting games of all time. Overall, the Street Fighter games are consistently high-quality and rarely disappoint.
Given the enduring popularity of Street Fighter, it’s no surprise a new live-action movie is on the way. Those who grew up with movies in the 90s might remember a previous Street Fighter film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile. Many fans still love the performance by Raul Julia as M. Bison, and despite some odd moments, the original film has gained a dedicated following over the years.
The new Street Fighter movie has a fantastic cast, with Jason Momoa playing Blanka. The trailers give us quick glimpses of live-action versions of our favorite characters from the fighting game series. It remains to be seen if the movie will follow the classic storyline of Ryu defeating M. Bison, or if it will take the story in a different direction.
The characters in Street Fighter have a huge range of abilities and power levels. It’s a game with a really diverse and interesting cast, and while almost anyone can win in the game itself, that’s not always the case in the movies. Though they’re all skilled fighters, not everyone is strong enough to be the ultimate champion in the tournament.
15. Dan Hibiki
Andrew Shultz will be playing Dan Hibiki in the 2026 Street Fighter movie. Gamers know Hibiki is often considered one of the weakest characters, despite being surprisingly capable. He simply isn’t as powerful or well-regarded as the main fighters.
At first glance, Dan’s fighting style seems a lot like Ryu and Ken’s. He practices ‘Saikyo’ style – meaning ‘strongest’ – and is a very confident (and sometimes boastful) martial artist. He’s usually the comic relief in the games, and it’s hard to imagine him playing any other role in a movie adaptation.
He’s still strong, but pales in comparison to the overpowered fighters in the Street Fighter cast.
14. Balrog
Balrog, played by 50 Cent, is a long-standing and powerful character in the Street Fighter series, known for his rough and unfair fighting style. He isn’t the only boxer in the games—Dudley is another, and many consider him even more skilled—but it’s currently unknown if Dudley will appear in the movie.
Balrog is a tough and aggressive boxer known for using any means necessary to win. While incredibly powerful, he’s ranked lower than some fighters because he faces opponents with extraordinary abilities. Being a skilled boxer isn’t enough to guarantee victory when up against those with superhuman strength or powers.
13. E. Honda
E. Honda, whose real name is Hirooki Goto, is a powerful sumo wrestler best known for his signature move, the ‘Hundred Hand Slap.’ He appeared in both the 1994 Street Fighter movie and the animated Street Fighter II film.
E. Honda is a skilled and dedicated sumo wrestler. He’s a formidable competitor in the ring, following traditional sumo rules. Unlike some other fighters, though, he relies on his training and technique, not superpowers or a background as an assassin.
It remains to be seen if E. Honda will perform his famous Sumo Headbutt in the new movie, but it’s difficult to imagine him playing a more prominent role than that.
12. Vega
Vega, the character played by Orville Peck, is hard to categorize. He’s a brutal fighter with a strange fascination for beauty, and he’s rarely seen without his mask. He also has a dangerous, claw-like prosthetic hand that has changed forms over time.
We’ve caught glimpses of Vega’s fighting ability in other films. For example, in Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, he has a memorable fight with Chun-Li. It’s a brutal and intense battle, and Chun-Li ultimately wins.
Vega is a quick and agile fighter, famous for his energetic movements during matches. However, despite being skilled, it’s difficult to rank him very high. He doesn’t have extraordinary powers and struggles against stronger opponents unless he can gain an early advantage.
11. Blanka
Blanka, played by Jason Momoa, is a difficult character to rank because he hasn’t had many prominent roles in either the films or video games. The 1994 movie reveals a sad origin story for Blanka: he was a victim of experiments conducted by M. Bison, which caused his unique, feral look.
Blanka is incredibly strong, like a wild animal, which is why his fighting style is so distinctive. He’s also able to generate electricity, making him the first character on this list with powers beyond normal human capabilities.
He’s a powerful and intimidating fighter, but doesn’t have the experience or formal training of those ranked above him.
10. Zangief
Like Blanka and Vega, it’s tough to place Zangief (Olivier Richters) on this list. He’s a powerful, large wrestler who could easily defeat many opponents. However, he ranks lower because a lot of fighters would likely avoid letting him get close enough to use his strength.
Zangief is well-known for his aggressive, close-range fighting style. He constantly pressures opponents, forcing them into corners and then using his grappling moves to win. It’s hard to argue he isn’t incredibly strong in one-on-one fights where players get right up close.
Despite being incredibly strong, there’s no evidence Zangief is a highly skilled assassin or possesses abilities beyond a normal human. He’s a powerful wrestler, but that alone isn’t enough to succeed in the world of Street Fighter.
9. Juli
Juli (played by Rayna Vallandingham) is likely the least well-known character set to appear in the new movie. While she’s shown up in a few games, you can only actually play as her in Street Fighter Alpha 3.
Based on her background, Juli is an average contender among this group. However, as one of Shadaloo’s Dolls, she’s a highly skilled and dangerous assassin.
Juli is quick and agile, and her training has taught her to always seek an advantage before engaging in a fight.
8. Cammy
As a huge cinema fan, I’ve always been fascinated by Cammy from Street Fighter. She’s such a compelling character! She’s not just a fighter, but a highly skilled operative from British special forces. What’s even more interesting is her backstory – apparently, she was once manipulated by Shadaloo as one of their ‘Dolls’ before managing to break free and regain her independence. It adds so much depth to her motivations!
Cammy is a popular character in the games, known for her quick movements and powerful attacks like the Spiral Arrow and Cannon Spike. Her background as a member of special forces gives her a slight edge over Juri.
Cammy is just as powerful as the next two characters, but she ranks slightly lower due to some losses in key matches. For instance, C. Viper consistently defeats her in Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind.
7. Guile
Cody Rhodes is portraying Guile in the new film, and his strength varies depending on which version of the story you look at. In the 1994 movie, he’s depicted as a very powerful fighter, even defeating M. Bison in a memorable battle.
Guile is typically shown as a top-level military fighter in films. He’s an exceptionally well-trained soldier with a lot of combat experience, and he’s also a skilled strategist, giving him unique strengths.
The trailer for the 2026 Street Fighter movie shows Guile powerfully breaking through a wall with his Flash Kick, establishing him as a strong fighter. It remains to be seen if his military background will be enough to overcome the villains in the new film.
6. Chun-Li
Chun-Li, played by Callina Liang, is a legendary fighter in the Street Fighter series. Known as one of the world’s strongest women, she’s consistently proven her skills. Players of 3rd Strike especially know how challenging she can be, as many consider her the most powerful character in that game.
Beyond her appearances in video games, Chun-Li is the star of her own movie, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. She’s a highly skilled martial artist with a proven track record, having defeated Vega on numerous occasions. She’s famous for her signature Spinning Bird Kick and her ability to quickly and decisively defeat opponents with precise strikes.
