After a long wait, Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to stream on Disney+ in the US, starting April 15th. This completes the entire collection of Marvel Cinematic Universe films on the service, including Homecoming, Far From Home, and all the Avengers movies. Fans can enjoy it all leading up to the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31st.
This new release has sparked a lot of confusion among fans. Since the film became available on Disney+, discussions about where it fits in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline have resurfaced. Many are puzzled that it’s placed between Eternals and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, instead of directly after Spider-Man: Far From Home, where the story begins.

Disney+ has been the international home for the film since earlier this year. It became available on the streaming service in many countries before it was released in the US.
Now, the US release order matches the timeline established by Marvel Studios. Spider-Man: No Way Home appears between the films Eternals and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, just as detailed in the official 2023 book, The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline, which was created with the studio to clearly define the series’ chronological order.
A lot of the confusion surrounding No Way Home stems from how it begins. The movie picks up immediately after Far From Home ends – it starts with the exact same frozen image, showing J. Jonah Jameson revealing Peter Parker’s identity as Spider-Man just after Peter and MJ swing through Times Square.
Tom Holland has stated that the new movie directly continues the story from the end of the previous one, confirming this before its 2021 release.

Following the initial scene, most of the movie is set several months afterward. Peter, MJ, and Ned are getting ready for college, and the Halloween decorations at MJ’s workplace indicate the story takes place around November.
To be fair, the events of this film mostly happen after Eternals. Producer Nate Moore has stated that Eternals takes place around the same time as Far From Home – fall 2024 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This discussion isn’t recent; it began when No Way Home appeared at a specific point in Disney+’s international release schedule, and people have been talking about it ever since. The US release has just brought the debate back to attention, and some fans strongly disagree with the order of the timeline.
What No Way Home’s Arrival on Disney+ Means for Brand New Day

It’s no coincidence that No Way Home just became available on Disney+; the release is likely intended to build excitement for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the next film starring Tom Holland as Spider-Man, which comes out in theaters on July 31st.
Okay, so the new movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, and it’s really cool to see Peter basically on his own in New York, where everyone’s forgotten who he is. It’s a much more grounded, street-level story for Marvel, which I’m loving! And thankfully, No Way Home is streaming on Disney+, so you can easily remember everything that happened before Brand New Day if you need a refresher.
The upcoming film, Brand New Day, will bring back Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, and Michael Mando will finally play Mac Gargan, a character hinted at in Homecoming. Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, and Tramell Tillman are also part of the cast. Now that all three Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland are available on Disney+, Marvel fans can watch Spider-Man’s complete story within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The new movie, Brand New Day, takes place about four years after the events of No Way Home. Peter Parker is now a grown-up and working as a full-time Spider-Man in New York City. While it’s unclear where Brand New Day fits into the timeline on Disney+, the placement of No Way Home has already sparked a lot of debate among fans.
