Netflix’s new show, Mating Season, is quickly becoming popular in the US, currently ranking at number 6 on their Top 10 list (according to FlixPatrol). It’s also gaining traction internationally, reaching the Top 5 in countries like Jamaica, Hungary, and Lithuania. All ten episodes of the series were released on Netflix at once on May 22nd.
Big Mouth’s Creators Offer More Raunchy Content
I’m really excited about Mating Season! It’s made by the same hilarious team behind Big Mouth and Human Resources – Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett. It’s another animated show with animals, but definitely geared towards adults. Basically, it’s a funny, honest look at how animals get it on, and it doesn’t shy away from the awkward and hilarious details of their mating rituals – just like Big Mouth, but with a whole new cast of characters!
According to John Derderian, Netflix’s VP of Animation Series, Big Mouth was groundbreaking because it honestly and humorously captured the experience of being a teenager, making it relatable to everyone. He describes working with Nick Kroll and the team at Brutus Pink for eight seasons as an incredible experience. Now, they’re bringing that same funny and fearless approach to a new show, Mating Season, which explores the animal world, and Netflix is thrilled to share it.
The team behind Brutus Pink announced that after eight seasons of shows about kids growing up, they’re eager to start creating stories about adults—adults who just happen to be cartoon animals!
Several Big Names Are Part of the Voice Cast
The show features a talented voice cast, including Zach Woods (known from The Office) as Josh the bear, Nick Kroll (Big Mouth) as Ray the raccoon, June Diane Raphael (Burning Love) as Fawn the deer, and Sabrina Jalees (Carol’s Second Act) as Penelope the red fox. Timothy Olyphant is joined by other well-known actors like Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) as Summer the foxhound, Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) as Geoffrey the owl, and Annaleigh Ashford (Legally Blonde) as Addy the swan.
