R. Scott Gemmill, the creator of the popular medical drama The Pitt, has shared when season 3 is expected to be filmed and released.
Created by Gemmill, the popular medical drama premiered on HBO Max on January 9, 2025. It quickly earned recognition from doctors and other healthcare workers for its realistic portrayal of the difficulties they face in the American healthcare system. The show has been highly acclaimed, winning three Primetime Emmys and two Golden Globes, and is now considered a standout in the medical drama genre.
Noah Wyle, known for his role on ER, leads the cast of The Pitt. What makes this show different is how it tells its stories in real-time, with each episode taking place during a single hour of a 15-hour workday. Season 2 of The Pitt is currently available on HBO Max, and even before the season 2 premiere on January 8, 2026, the show was picked up for a third season.
Marc Malkin spoke with Variety about Supirya Ganesh’s unexpected departure from the show. He also shared that season 3 of The Pitt is scheduled to begin filming in June, with the season set to take place in November—likely to include storylines featuring colder weather.
Although we don’t yet know what will happen in season 3, this change will probably affect the plot. Since reports suggest Ganesh’s departure was part of the story, it shows that The Pitt carefully plans its storylines and decisions.
As a huge fan, I’m really intrigued by the decision to set the next season in autumn and winter. I have a feeling the colder weather won’t just be for atmosphere; I’m predicting a sickness outbreak – maybe even a flu – will be a major part of the story. It just makes sense, and I think The Pitt season 3 is going to really lean into how the changing seasons impact the plot.
Ayesha Harris’ co-star, Dr. Parker Ellis, will be a regular cast member next season, likely leading to more storylines centered around his character. As filming begins in a few months, the show, The Pitt, needs to finalize its plot for season 3 and make sure the filming schedule allows for those stories to be told.
As a huge fan of The Pitt, I think what really makes it work is how invested you get in the characters and their journeys. Honestly, I’m really hoping season 3 can be just as good as the first two! I’ve heard they’re setting it in November, which is a smart move. That colder weather could open the door to some seriously intense, real-time drama, especially if the Pittsburgh TMC has to contend with a flu outbreak on top of everything else. It feels like a recipe for chaos, and I’m here for it!
