I was totally hooked on both seasons of The Pitt! What really got me was how real and complicated all the characters were, and honestly, it was heartbreaking to see patients die in the ER. I was so glad a lot of the cast came back for Season 2, but it also made me worried, because there were hints that some of our favorites might not make it to the end. Turns out most of the fan theories were wrong, thankfully! But the show creators did confirm that Supriya Ganesh, who plays Dr. Mohan, won’t be joining us for Season 3, which is a real bummer.
The new season of the show will pick up only about four months after the last one, unlike the larger time jump between Seasons 1 and 2. Series creator R. Scott Gemmill recently told TVLine that Noah Wyle’s character, Dr. Robby Robinavitch, will survive his motorcycle trip and return for Season 3. Fans can also expect to see the returning cast, including Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon, Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay, Taylor Dearden as Dr. Mel King, Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos, Gerran Howell as Dr. Dennis Whitaker, and Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi.
Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) and Emma Nolan (Laëtitia Hollard) will be back for another season. Joy Kwon (Irene Choi) and James Ogilvie (Lucas Iverson), who first appeared in Season 2, might also return, but the show’s creator hasn’t confirmed that yet. Ayesha Harris, who plays Dr. Parker Ellis, will now be a main cast member, and her character will be switching from the night shift to the day shift, as the season continues to take place during the daytime.

The current cast suggests major characters aren’t likely to be written off the show anytime soon, though the large number of popular figures leaves some uncertainty about who will return. The biggest surprise of the season was Dr. Al-Hashimi revealing she experiences seizures, especially since the storyline had been building towards her replacing Dr. Robby. She proposed needing two doctors present in case of a seizure, and showrunner Gemmill confirmed this could allow both her and Dr. Robby to return next season.
Despite many fan theories about unfortunate things happening to our favorite characters, none of them actually came true. And while Dr. Mohan wasn’t in Season 3, the show’s creator, Gemmill, explained that this is because the entire series unfolds over just a single day. Gemmill then went on to discuss:
Because this is a teaching hospital, staff turnover is common, and we’ve always accepted that as part of the show. We jumped the timeline forward four months partly to avoid having to write out multiple characters at once. We genuinely enjoy working with our actors and the audience loves them, so it’s always tough when someone leaves, but it’s a natural part of the job. The character was facing some professional challenges, which reflects the reality of working in medicine – not everyone thrives under that pressure. She was excellent at connecting with patients, but she wasn’t adapting to the fast pace of the emergency room as quickly as needed.
Gemmill clarified that even with a four-month time jump, Dr. Mohan would still be finishing her residency, but wouldn’t be on duty that particular day.
Season 3 of The Pitt is expected to premiere in January 2027.
