Andy Serkis’ Gritty 2026 War Movie Unveils Young George Washington In New Trailer

Andy Serkis is going back in time with Young Washington.

George Washington began as a Virginia farmer before leading the Continental Army during the American Revolution and ultimately becoming the first President of the United States. Remembered as the “Father of His Country,” his impact is still felt in America today, over two centuries after his passing. Soon, his story and experiences from the war will be explored again by Serkis and other historians.

The trailer for Young Washington is out, giving a first look at the new war film that focuses on a young George Washington. The movie stars William Franklyn-Miller as Washington, alongside Ben Kingsley as Robert Dinwiddle, Andy Serkis as Edward Braddock, Mia Rogers as Sally Fairfax, Joel Smallbone as William Fairfax, Kelsey Grammer as Thomas Fairfax, Jonno Davies as James Mackay, and Mary-Louise Parker as Mary Ball Washington.

The new historical film, Young Washington, will be released in theaters on July 3rd. Directed by Jon Erwin, who previously made House of David, the movie tells the true story of George Washington’s early life and how his experiences in the French and Indian War – both on the battlefield and in politics – helped shape the future of America.

Before becoming the famous leader of his country, George Washington was a young soldier struggling to stay alive. A single mistake throws him into a massive global war, challenging everything he believes in – his honor, his loyalty, and his bravery. As friendships fall apart and war breaks out on the frontier, he’s forced to face both his enemies and the person he is becoming. This is the previously unknown story of the young George Washington.

The film is being released at a special time – just before the 250th anniversary of the United States – and celebrates a key figure in the nation’s founding. It appears to tell the story of George Washington’s life before he became a leader during the American Revolution.

Young Washington marks the first partnership between Angel Studios and Wonder Project. The studios aim to create a significant box office hit that celebrates a key moment in American history. The film’s script was developed collaboratively by director Erwin, along with Tom Provost and Diedrik van Hoogstraten.

Young Washington will march into theaters on July 3, 2026.
