Taylor Sheridan‘s Western crime thriller lassos a new streaming home.
Taylor Sheridan has significantly impacted the Western genre, but he’s often immediately recognized for his work on the Yellowstone franchise. While that connection makes sense—Yellowstone and its related shows are incredibly popular and have revitalized the genre—Sheridan’s contributions extend far beyond that series. He’s done a lot to elevate Westerns and neo-Westerns through other films and shows, and one of his best movies perfectly showcases his range. That film is now available on a new streaming platform.
Starting today, May 1st, you can stream the movie Hell or High Water on Peacock in the US. It was previously available on Netflix, but it left that platform on April 30th. Now, Peacock is the only place to stream it for the time being. This is great news for fans of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, which also streams on Peacock. Unlike the Yellowstone spin-offs, it’s not on Paramount+, making Peacock the go-to place for Sheridan’s Westerns.
Both Yellowstone and Hell or High Water center around families struggling to hold onto their ranches. While the methods differ, both stories feature characters who operate in morally gray areas. In Hell or High Water, the Howard brothers resort to bank robbery to pay off debts and save their family farm after their mother passes away. The Duttons in Yellowstone have also bent the law to protect their land, but they haven’t gone as far as robbing banks.
Released in theaters on August 12, 2016, Hell or High Water is a Western crime thriller written by Sheridan. It came out two years before the popular TV series Yellowstone, which began streaming on Peacock in June 2018. Made with a budget of $12 million, Hell or High Water earned $37.9 million worldwide, making it a financial success as it only needed between $24 and $30 million to recoup its costs. The film has received critical acclaim, with a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and also resonated with audiences, who gave it an 89% rating.
The film Hell or High Water, written by Taylor Sheridan (the creator of Yellowstone), is part of a trilogy of American frontier movies that also includes Sicario and Wind River. It’s just one of many new titles added to Peacock on May 1st. Other popular movies now streaming include 50 First Dates, The Boss Baby, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Dirty Dancing, Dunkirk, The Martian, The Mummy, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Pulp Fiction, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and more. With its similar themes and style to Yellowstone, Hell or High Water makes a great pairing and is now available on Peacock.
